What kind of person with two perfect good stair-walking legs doesn't get out of the lift to let a wheelchair in? That's honestly appalling.
@juspreetkaur25047 жыл бұрын
Dougie Powell Just becuase their legs appear to be able to make it up and down the stairs doesn't mean they are. (and let me tell you, with arthritis it's a LOT harder to go down than up) Invisible disabilities such as chronic pain, POTS, and Ehler Danlos Syndrome can make it hard to get around and make it down all those stairs and in the case of EDS, if they try to help lift the wheelchair, they could very easily dislocate a shoulder, their elbow, their wrist, or even their fingers. Just becuase someone looks able bodied doesn't mean they are. Granted, Americans are typically lazy and would rather save time and energy by taking the elevator instead of the stairs. It may seem appaling to you, however just by looking at someone, you can't tell if they're disabled. The thing about invisible illnesses is that you just can't tell unless you are that person or you know them and they have the confidence to share that information with you. You'd be amazed at the number of people who would say that your invisible illness(es) are fake even after you open up to them about your pain.
@taurnilx7 жыл бұрын
Juspreet Kaur No I understand that completely, that's why I specified 'stair-walking legs.' I know perfectly well that disability has a wide range and I wasn't trying to imply otherwise. What I fail to believe is that every single person in that lift over the course of an hour was disabled! I find it 'appalling' that people with, as I specified, two perfect stair walking legs wouldn't get out for him. Not that other disabled people wouldn't get out for him. If you were waiting for a lift but couldn't go down for an hour because no-one would get out for you, and I'm sure its a lot harder for you then Zach to show you are disabled, I would be just as appalled.
@KattReen7 жыл бұрын
None of those people had a clue how long Zach had been waiting there lol, they were probably all thinking "meh, he can just get the next one". If he had kindly asked them to, I'm sure most of them would have let him on. Also it might be the effect of Zach having people with him, people figuring those people would sort him out anyways. Get what you're saying though, I would probably have gotten out of the lift to let him on.
@taurnilx7 жыл бұрын
Yeah that's the problem isn't it. That sort of crowd feeling of "Oh I don't have time to take the stairs but I'm sure someone else will let him in." Sometimes we can't help getting those thoughts and you're right, they might have considered that Zach would ask if he wanted them to move, or might have considered it rude to do so without being asked. I suppose their are a lot of factors here- But it's still awful that no-one even thought to ask!

Well- doesn't matter woulda, coulda, shoulda..... I suppose that I can't show you- but I can assure you that now I'd definitely get out. I do suspect that this might be cultural. We often take stairs by choice here anyway, but then there are never quite as many floors as that.
