I've been playing this song for years and always come back to it. It's such a classic! I also really like the Galaxie 500 version.

Yeah, Galaxie 500 , loved that version as well 👍
@sandy00w5 жыл бұрын
In the Galaxie 500 box set notes, they talk about this song and hanging out with new order, and learning the guitar directly from them. Both versions are great and give me chills every time I hear them.

Adding tp the chorus of folks who love Galaxie 500's cover as well. It's my second favorite New Order cover, after Chappaquiddick Skyline (Joe Pernice)'s cover of "Leave Me Alone".

For as easy as this song is to play, I've seen at least four or five tutorials on youtube and they're all different. After watching this I can say confidently that yours is the best by far, and the most accurate sounding to the original that I've seen. Thanks for another great lesson!

I was lucky enough to see the first public performance of this song. I always think that the original release is how the single would have sounded had Ian lived.

This is the song that inspired me to learn guitar (at age 47). I've been working on this song for two years and the chorus section always eluded me. Thank you for breaking it down slowly and showing what strings are being played. Thanks, Adrian!

baker boys fan with new order he wasn’t as good of a player because he isn’t very good at balancing the roles of singer and guitarist, but if you listen to joy division performances he’s usually always a good player.

The riff that start at 00:52 gives me a reflective, sombre feeling. The opening chords of Regret give me the exact same feeling. Thank you sir for mapping out such an amazing anthem.

Great choice, played it in a couple of bands; along with Atmosphere and Temptation it's my favourite. The sparsness of the guitar really complements the despair of the lyrics. "Too frail to wake this time"

Ironically this song does use some pentatonics. But, yeah, something about being really good at guitar makes these KZbinrs have shit taste in music. They all worship John Mayer, and I don’t get it.

@19peter963 жыл бұрын
@@chadlong1109 It's cause there's a difference between being a good guitarist and a good musician. People who like indie and punk and all that prefer the later. They're willing to be crude and less technical but more creative and original because the guitar is just a conduit for the music. People who see themselves as guitarists first sometimes treat playing more like a sport so they just wanna measure how fast and brutal they can make their blues lick.

Great cover!! I saw New Order in concert back in the 80s they were supported by the Happy Monday’s. I was only about 18 yrs old. Feels very nostalgic to hear this now. Shame they split but that’s the nature of bands. Can’t imagine what Ian Curtis would have written if he was still around. A great loss to music. All the best great guitar lessons very clear and well demonstrated, good luck with the tutoring.

Thank you very much for doing Ceremony! I saw New Order I think in 83 here in Düsseldorf. Bernhard Sumner played a Gibson 335 ? through a Vox amp but not an AC30 but I think an early solid state Amp that makes that distinctiv trebely sound.

I think there’s some footage out there of New Order performing this song as a trio where Stephen Morris sings the first verse while Bernard Sumner plays the guitar parts. The first chorus is sung by Peter Hook, while the second chorus is sung by Bernard Sumner. The addition of Gillian Gilbert allowed Sumner to focus on singing the first verse while Gilbert would play the guitar parts.

I always regarded New Order as the electronic Rolling Stones! You play it better than New Order AND Galaxie 500! ‘Dreams never end’ is another NEw Order classic in this mould. The Cure would rip it off for ‘in between days’!

Adrian this is fantastic. You've really nailed it and your explanations are spot on. I noticed you didn't speak about the tone though. How are you getting the right sound because it's dead on. Is it just straight into the amp? So much of this song is in the tone of Bernards guitar.
