Thanks for your positive comment Henri! I was very impressed with Kiyoshi, and appreciate his unique and well-made product here. It adds some color and unique features to a space with a lot of very similar ebikes :)

Good looking bike. Cero was in Victoria at Bishop's Family Cycle, who will be selling Cero over here. Looking forward to investigating it more. I'll have to pop over to the EBR website to do a comparison between this and the Tern HSD.

Hey! It sounds like you're in the know. I heard he was going to visit Victoria during the Canada trip. I'd love to hear your thoughts after riding both bikes at some point :)

First, I'd like to commend you on posting the price in the title...secondly, thorough review, as always....finally, great bike but just not compelling enough to spend that kind of money.

Thanks for the positive remarks on my work! I do my best to bring an objective (and fun) perspective on these bikes. I was really impressed that Kiyoshi drove all the way up to make it happen, he's a good guy :)

I agree Disgusto. The point is to have 0 left in your wallet. Ebikes are insanely overpriced in general. I do feel Mr Iwai's lovely Mamachari style Ebike is luxury priced too, though the Gates Carbon Drive is welcome. I would prefer a Bosch Cargo line motor,definitely at least USB out, and a more premium driveline and IGH at that pricepoint in this competitive market. It does Not feature a Rohloff, Kindernay, or Enviolo/NuVinci IGH or even a Shimano Alfine 8 speed hub for near $4,000 USD. I do appreciate it being made in Taiwan and would gladly pay a reasonable upcharge over a mainland China manufactured bike. A brand new 2021-22 Kawasaki KLR 650 Dual Sport Motorcycle costs less than a high end TERN GSD and many Riese & Muller & other premium Ebike's, hence my agreement with Disgusto. I always enjoy Court's usual , uniformly superb EBR review, with real time critique based on his profound, empirical Ebike wisdom & knowledge ,all presented with the owner/designer/founder present. Hey, if you're prone to being butt hurt, can't take constructive criticism and put on your big boy undies, don't ask Court/EBR for a KZbin review & demo. That's why we watch EBR with Court on YT & trust his reviews,opinions,& integrity. That being said, Konichiwa to the gracious, humble , and warm CEO Kiyoshi Iwai of CERO. May he live long and Prosper. Happy Trails and Holidays to all. Ride safe & smile,phil🇺🇲🍀👍

@@PhiLeo7973 the thing is. Going through taiwan and bringing bikes here ain't cheap. Manufacturing is expensive and parts and materials pricing are going up(inflation) I wouldn't be surprised if this bike was expensive to make . This is a business and we as consumers don't think about what these guys pay to make high end products. The fact he's using mostly Japanese parts and avoided China speaks volumes already. Id gladly by this over a cheap china bike any day.

Yeah, there are less expensive options out there, but prices have been going up across the board due to high demand, high shipping costs, chip shortages etc. here are some more affordable ones I've covered recently: electricbikereview.com/category/affordable/

Love it but 4K? Idk man, either inflations really hitting hard or this bike is 1k-2k over priced
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I feel you... Trying my best to mix in value priced bikes (that are still good quality/reliable) and also the nicer stuff. Anytime you've got a Shimano mid-drive, Gates, CVT, and hydraulic disc brakes with a custom low volume frame... it's just going to cost a lot. Honestly, I'm surprised it doesn't cost more! And yes... inflation, recent CPI number was highest in 30 years above 6%! that's alarming, negative real yields on bank accounts earning 0.05% so you're losing 5.5% annually, and that's probably under reported since CPI is generally thought to be misleading :/

Been looking at a few ebikes around the $1500 to $1800 and it's kind of disappointing on what your getting. Can't see any value in anything over $2500. Seems like they still use basic bicycle breaking when they should really have larger disk brakes and same cheap gearing shifters.
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, the lower priced bikes tend to use basic parts and often mechanical disc brakes. I was happy to see some companies like Magnum, Rad, and Aventon going to hydraulic disc, but their prices also jumped up. Anything with a decent mid-drive motor seems to start at $3k or you can pay $2.5k for an underpowered motor like the Bosch Active Line...

I know this might be irrelevant but, my battery got stuck in the frame. it won't open and when i turn the key to try to open the battery there is no resistance like it should be. And another thing to note is that at the top of the battery on the right side there is a little gap like if it is not completely clicked in the frame. Any suggestions/solutions I would appreciate?
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I wish I could look at it in person. Maybe there's some sticks or dust creating space, or maybe the mount needs adjustment? I've seen this on some Bosch Powerpacks before. Maybe the latch got stuck in the pressed-in position and that's why there is no resistance? So hard to tell without seeing it :/

Pedaling around corners could be a problem with the lower center of gravity
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Are you concerned about sliding or something? I think it handled well enough, but the lower bottom bracket and longer crank arms could result in more frequent pedal strikes or bottom bracket strikes on curbs or with obstacles like rocks and logs. Overall, it felt decent to me and wasn't as tippy as most cargo bikes, but still tippier than a non-cargo with no font rack.
@visualpun650
@visualpun650 2 жыл бұрын
When they talked about the small front wheel offering a lower center of gravity, he was referring to the basket being lower than on a larger wheel. That reduces the jerkiness, floppiness a front load will have when you are turning the bike.

Yeah, I think it’s a good setup. Prices have been rising a lot for some brands, so I was actually very impressed that this one only went up $400 when so many things were improved… better motor, upgraded frame with internal cable routing, Gates belt drive, internally geared hub.

They Tony! Those are old Oakley sunglasses with swappable lenses. I think they're called Jawbones... and they don't sell the originals anymore, now they are called Racing Jackets. I like them because they have vents and don't fog as easily, and I ride with clear lenses here in BC because it's cloudy and rainy a lot ;)

Non integrated battery is deal breaker. Makes the bike looks cheap, for over 3 grand they can do better.
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
I'm so torn on the integrated batteries, because they usually weigh more and are longer and sharper and more difficult to take off and put back. For me, this particular Shimano STePs battery pack is the best execution of an external battery, because it slides off from the side and has a decent charger design. But yeah, it's not quite as pretty as a fully integrated battery ;)

Bad idea with the small wheel in the front
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
There are definitely some trade-offs, but it's not any worse than a folding ebike with two 20" wheels. The benefit is lower basket that won't block the view or be as difficult to load, it's also stronger due to short spoke length, and has good turning radius. They could have gone with two 20" wheels like the R&M Tinker, but the rear wheel here provides more comfort and allows for more drivetrain options. electricbikereview.com/riese-muller/tinker-nuvinci/

Oh boy! Thanks for the heads up, I just fixed the URL. I had staged something different because they didn't change the bike name and I didn't want to overwrite the 2017 review with this new one. Yeah, this is a Class 1 model, as all Shimano ebikes are... they're kind of a purist ebike company.

always 'new and improved' to keep the cost so prohibitative. when will under $800-900 ebikes be made ?
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Oh, there are $800 ebikes around online… but there’s definitely a drop off in reliability, lifespan, and even support parts. I feel like there’s a sweet spot on price and actual value. Who wants to spend $800 for a bike that might not even last a year…

$3.8k. Plus $200 for a rack. I can’t get past those prices.
@ElectricBikeReview
@ElectricBikeReview 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I guess it's just expensive to get custom parts that are physically large and made in lower quantities... I'm sure they need to make money too, and might make more on the accessories than the bike itself. Yeah, it's a lot vs. the more standard bulk racks, but it is unique and possibly more useful for certain applications.
