The mountain is located in the Cordillera Central, on the border between the municipalities of Jayuya and Ponce. The access road to the point closest to the highest elevation is from the municipality of Jayuya. It is part of the Toro Negro Forest Reserve, and it has been described as "an alpine runt. It is located on the western end of the Toro Negro State Park. The mountain is just north of east-to-westbound Route 143. It is located at coordinates 18.172458 and -66.591839W. The nearest populated place to Cerro de Punta is Urbanization Vega Linda, located 3.3 miles away.
[edit]Geology
Unlike many Caribbean mountains, Cerro de Punta is not a volcano but simply the highest point in the Cordillera Central. Cordillera Central is the central mountain range that divides the island by running in an east-west fashion.
Best view
The view from atop Cerro de Punta is said to be "the best view in all of Puerto Rico". On a clear day, it is possible to see virtually the entire island, including as far as San Juan, which is over 75 miles away. There are a number of radio and television transmission and re-transmission towers just off the top of the mountain. There is an observation platform at the top of the mountain. Wildlife and flora
The mountain is home to an abundant amount wildlife, lush vegetation, flowering shrubs and trees, and numerous waterfalls. The mountain is covered by palm trees. Various plants, including some endangered species are found here. The endangered fern Elaphoglossum serpens is found only on this mountain and nowhere else in the world.

+Anibal Babilonia, that spot maybe nice but trust me, for the most part PR is NOT gorgeous (it reminded me of the garbage that everywhere in the DR). During my visit I didn't find any of the beaches, from San Juan to Vieques, decent either. No different than the Beaches here on the North end of the East Coast in America. Very unattractive imo. Had an amazing time but it's expensive & not worth it. I would NOT go back.

+Diane “Di” Nehman that's too bad! You probably didn't get out of the San Juan area!! Jejeje that's the problem with most tourists! They go only to San Juan area they don't get out to explore the other side of the island! Me my self love Puerto Rico, but San Juan the only time I'll go there is to sight seeing and that's it! I would not live there. But that's you're opinion that's fine.

+Anibal Babilonia, It wasn't bad. We didn't stay in San Juan other than one afternoon. We like to travel off the beaten path. It just didn't do much for me, & those CRAZY drivers, yikes. That alone was enough to keep me away, heheheh! Glad you love it so much, it's nice to have place that make you feel at home. I agree couldn't live there. Happy travels!

+Diane “Di” Nehman I'm not mad at you I think everyone is entitled to their own opinion, I just think sometimes you have to explore beyond that point not just stay in the same area. Is like everywhere else, they might advertise the place as beautiful and clean! But when you go there! Is not as clean or as beautiful as advertised!
@httr155
@httr155 8 жыл бұрын
+Anibal Babilonia, no worries, I didn't claim any madness. I understand what you mean but again we DIDN'T stay in the same place, we moved about the entire time. We didn't go based on the expectation of beauty through & through, we went b/c we were curious & wanted to explore something new. I just wasn't expecting it to be as bad in terms of the garbage everywhere. We had a lot of fun but it's just not our cup of tea. Anyhow Beauty is in the eye of the beholder so we will end it w/ that.

The speed of your video climbing to the top is dizzying. You had an option, either start at the top or slow down the filming traveling the road upwards and prolonging the video. Aside from the above critique, the scenery from the observation point is stunning. Thank you for sharing.

This is exactly what i think, they took a lot of vegetation down to build the towers. The reason they build communications towers there because its the highest place in the island and can cover most of the island. I think they should build a nice visitors center there with bathrooms, security and sky decks.

✔️ WHY is it that the Site DESCRIPTION is done in in English language?... Which is the damn language of the Yankee, the gringos, who were the ones who in 1898 INVADED the Archipelago of PuertoRico; where SPANISH is the native language,...NOT English. English language indeed IS very offensive to the Puertorricans and their holy CULTURE !... SAY IT LIKE IT IS ! IN PUERTO RICO THE POPULATION SPEAKS S P A N I S H ! 🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷🇵🇷 They are CARIBBEANS descendants of the Taino indians and Spaniards. They are NOT damn people from the United States. Get it ?!!

Taino, is the only language that should be spoken. The disgusting Spanish and their Catholic monarchs with their Sikh religion who funded him destroyed the islands. A true Puerto Rican would never speak Spanish.
