There is no reason to say they were married, but for sure they were in a deep relationship before and took a break for a while and came back to each other like it happened in the film.

If they were are/were married, is her son his son? He does not seem to recognize the ‘stranger’ and teases his mother about the flirtation. Or is he part of the game?
