Since there are many attempting bad copies, trying to figure out this thing, I will put it out:
Have you ever heard about the cervical spine connection or support in opera technique? Of course not, because this is a terminology I have created for my school to simplify correct alignment and the old school traditional noble position as did Mario Del Monaco, Gigli, Corelli, you name it. This is a secret I’m revealing, as I’ve seen nowadays colleagues trying to figure it out, this is a big part of the puzzle for the rest. 😉
They’ve been improving their posture and alignment since I started putting these videos out. But with this simple basic guide you’ll know the real thing how it used to be, some colleagues know it (the one’s kicking ass today), and some are just trying. This exercise with the towel was created together with one of my students Mr. Benedict Chen @benedict.chen.official during our lessons.
For the “Maestros” out there: If you want to teach something similar, it’s better to teach the real stuff, you can just call me and stop breaking your head trying to figure this many things out and just confusing young singers around!
This happened with my concept of mixing vowels too. Three years ago, nobody talked about it. It was a non-concept, it didn’t exist. I came up with this and now everybody’s talking about it and doing it wrong.
People, please study the reason of why and how! And stop trying to imitate the result to later teach it as a misconception!!
That’s like building a pyramid from top down…

It's all relative - the pianissimo to cut through an orchestra and be heard at the back of a big hall will be much louder than the pianissimo in a small room by yourself!
