Great video! This will be very helpful for French students learning English. Here in the Midwest, however, we DO pronounce the "L" in the majority of the words that end in "LM", such as balm, calm, elm, film, palm, realm, etc.

Salut Huito, Vous faites un excellent travail et j’apprécie vos explications. Cependant, veuillez noter qu’il existe plusieurs grandes régions aux États-Unis (New York, Boston et plusieurs États du Sud, millions de personnes) qui ont maintenu des similitudes de prononciation avec l’Angleterre. L’accent de New York et l’accent du Sud (London) partagent un certain nombre de similitudes, notamment dans leurs caractéristiques non-rhotiques. Les deux accents tendent à omettre le son “r” lorsqu’il apparaît après une voyelle ou à la fin des mots. Des similarités existent avec “Vowel Shifts”. Dans les deux accents, les voyelles sont souvent allongées ou modifiées. Nous avons également en commun les “Glottal Stops” et l’“Intrusive ‘R’”. Il existe de nombreuses influences linguistiques historiques, car les premiers colons de New York provenaient principalement d’Angleterre, et les accents ont conservé certaines caractéristiques au fil du temps. Cependant, chaque accent a évolué dans sa propre direction et a développé des traits uniques. New York ne parle pas “l’American TV English”. P.S. : Il existe quelques mots d’origine étrangère qui en font leur chemin dans le langage courant, où le K et le N se prononcent tous deux, comme dans « knish » (une pâtisserie farcie de pommes de terre) ou « Knesset » (le Parlement israélien). C'est une excellente chose que nous francisions les mots étrangers. Ça facilite l'apprentissage de la lecture et ça évite d'avoir à apprendre la prononciation de chaque mot, comme on doit malheureusement le faire avec la langue anglaise. Pourquoi live /laiv/ et (to) live /liv/ ? etc....

The word 'sword' or épée in French. Almost never hear a French speaker pronouncing it correctly even in professional documentaries (the 'w' is silent). Come to think of it so is the 'r' in a lot of British accents. Sword was also the code name of one of the five Normandy landing beaches during D-Day along with Juno, Gold, Utah and Omaha.
