How To Stop Dog Barking
In this Cesar911 Episode, Cesar helps a family whose dog barks at everything!
The mom's son, Mason, is scared to even enter the house because the dog makes him feel uncomfortable. He is afraid that the dog, Buddy, will lash out.
This video focuses on when to give affection at the right time and to make sure you are not rewarding the wrong behavior!

I have to laugh. Look at his grey hair! Now I’m quite sure he is younger than I, but yeah he’s a good man. His sons work for him so they learn a trade and can support themselves. Cesar looks at a dog’s world and their point of view, and figuring out what needs to be done. PS, it’s always the owner’s fault! LoL. My dog barks too much if someone gets off the elevator, a package delivery etc. So I talk to her in full sentences, she seems to understand. “Nope, I told you, you get ONE BARK and after that, I will nag on you as only a woman can!” She gets too carried away but not nearly so much as she once did. My son brought his worst barking dog to me for three weeks. First day she went half on, half off the puppy pad. We walked past the pad, I stopped and said, in a chilling voice, “I think you can do better than that.” I raised that one from a pup then he took over, so she knew me well (she watched TV with me, loves FaceTime with her). Not one more “half on, half off” episodes. She learned not to bark, in a short period of time. But she’s back home and barks the most, again. It’s pack mentality. If I come to visit, I call when I get in the driveway so he can let them out to the back yard, so the barking won’t wake the sleeping baby. Not sure how to cure that problem but it’s their problem, not mine.

Your dog thinks he's on pack leader duty. When he barks at other dogs and people, that's him going into protection mode. You need to switch the dynamic and become the pack leader yourself. It's almost like the dog feels the need to be the pack leader but only because it has to and in a normal pack would be the least likely candidate to be leader due to its personality. It might be while its fearful, because being a pack leader is the last thing it wants to do, even more so than other individual dogs. Basically feeling forced to do something it doesn't want to do at all where other dogs may just make it work.

@@fergie-kx3us You think that’s what hes doing??? Have you ever seen him hurt a dog? Have you ever seen dogs scared around him? Because that’s not at all what hes doing and it’s laughable that you see it that way. Hes confident, calm and loving in all his encounters with dogs, and the dogs are always calm around him, it’s really wierd how that is scaring them. All hes doing is correcting bad behavour. Dogs NEED an alpha, they need someone to be in charge. Just because you give them that doesn’t mean you scare them into submission… If what you see in his videos is scaring dogs into submission, then by your logic, you can’t ever change a behavour of a dog without abusing it..

@@perssontm1628 There are many videos in which he physically harms dogs. In this particular video the harm is mainly psychological. He acknowledges that the dog's behaviour is due to fear. Instead of creating conditions in which the dog understands there is nothing to fear he admonishes the dog for expressing it's fear by prodding, poking, shhting and depriving him of access to a space where he feels safe by yanking him off the sofa when the boy enters, without the dog actually having done anything wrong at that point. He instructs the dog's owner to withdraw affection and reassurance. Instead of helping the dog to understand that when the boy enters the room good things happen, he signals to the fearful dog that he's right to fear the boy's presence as the boy's very presence means that bad things will happen to the dog. It's psychologically damaging and doomed to fail. Your understanding of dogs and alphas is flawed. Dogs in the wild actually live cooperatively. I'd be interested to know where you got that information from. Milan, right?

Anybody else dealing with a dog that barks incessantly? I could really do with Cesar's magic right now. She's a rescue and I've only had her for 2 weeks so I've slowly tried to gain her trust each day. I've seen amazing improvement in terms of her demeanor towards me. However, the one thing that hasn't changed is the incessant barking. She'll go from 1 to 10 in an instant. Any ideas? I would really appreciate any replies.

Firstly, well done and keep doing what you're doing. Secondly, there are many reasons why a dog barks, but 9 times out of 10 it's because they're territorial / protective (or just scared) - This is why leadership is so essential. When you establish leadership, she will no longer feel the need to be protective or scared. Why? Because she 100% trusts you to take control of any given situation. It's like you're taking that job off her if that makes sense. G,oogIe the phrase - RecaII 123 BIog

They bark at each other playing, and the older barks at us to give him food at dinner. I ignore the behavior, I do not respond to it depending on my mood. They do not bark at other dogs or people walking by outdoors. I am grateful for that.

@@sachinisg it’s not that simple if you don’t also solve the dogs issues and correct them. That won’t stop them from barking at every little thing, it only stops them from doing so in the house if they’re not in the house to bark. At the end of the day, a dog is still a dog, but I have a hard time trying to picture this woman just ditching her dog for a outside dog house especially since she feels so close to him. That dog, even though he’s not properly trained is probably treated a lot better than most people who get a dog and ditch them as they get older for the back yard on a chain. Her emotional attachment to him shows she’s not that kind of pet owner. She definitely needs to work more with the dog to get him to behave better. Doing so is just hard, I’m sure, in her type of situation where she’s to attached to him to fill that emotional void from losing her husband. She seems like a very sweet and lovely woman, however, it takes more than just feeding, grooming and caring for a dog to have them be ‘good’. Most people don’t understand how complex ’pets’ are and how each individual animal has their own way of being on how to care for them in a way that we can understand how their brains work. It’s a bit more than ‘I want a dog to make me feel better’ type of thing and even then more than likely the dog is there to fulfill the humans needs over the animals and I mean no disrespect when I say this, but most people don’t realize that this is a bit on the selfish level. Humans, as intelligent as they are, don’t always get it right even as well intentioned as they may be. Back to my original point, while dogs may be animals, but banishing them to the back yard is not the answer and won’t solve this issue even if you have a really cool set up. So, no, it’s not as “simple” as you may think. Also, what’s the point of having a dog if you just keep them outside all the time especially if you’re going to be ‘lazy’ and not train them? To do so is very irresponsible as a pet ‘owner’ and doesn’t make up for not doing right by your dog thinking you are able to ‘simply’ get off the hook in the much needed training department.

Do they know the word no? A lot of these small breeds have no boundaries. They’re in “your” bed, couch, lap etc. They see themselves as equal in the pack. You have to set boundaries. It’s normal for them to bark when they hear car doors slam or commotion outside. It’s the non stop barking that’s the problem. Start by saying no in a firm, loud voice so they know you mean it, maybe block off the triggered area. But start with the main one who starts barking and work your way down. Like ENOUGH MILO !! ENOUGH LULU !! ENOUGH FOXY !! Show your displeased for 15 mins.

@RaiseTheBar4Truth
@RaiseTheBar4Truth 2 жыл бұрын
@@tarot-karma-online Sorry, but there isn't the slightest abuse going on here at all. It's more of a problem of ignorance by the dog owner and it's not just her. The majority of dog owners assume their dogs can relate to humans in a human way, but they cannot. The majority of dog owners biggest problem comes from how they respond when they don't approve of their dogs behavior inside or outside the home. This lady, clearly wants what's best for her dog, herself and her family. She has developed an emotional attachment to the dog from the void created by her loss. But due to her emotional instability and her misunderstanding of how she relates to her dog, has created unnecessary conflicts and also the unwanted behavior from the dog! A dog will never understand human behavior or emotions, no matter how much we would want that or how often it's portrayed in movies and through the process of conditional interactions! A dog's behavior is based on their instinctive behavioral responses to it's environment. Their instincts are triggered by their environment (that including humans) which leads many dogs to be reactive by the situational conditions within their environment. Instinctive responses can be altered through the use of conditioning, by changing their environmental situations using what each dog instinctively wants or desires. Using the reward process to achieve a particular response and or behavior, conditions their instincts to perform or respond to their instinctive wants or desires! This is by far the most successful method of dog training that is known as the use of conditioning. Very simple, do not give your dog what it wants or desires when it performs behaviors that are unwanted, that includes any affectional acceptance. A dog can sense acceptance, as it's part of their instincts as pack animals. When a dogs behavior is that of what you seek, reward the dog, then repeat, over and over again. It will become conditioned to respond in the same way every time. Once the conditioning has been achieved, you'll no longer have to continue the reward process. The dogs environmental instinctive behavior will have been altered with no harm to the dog or the human! The human doesn't need conditioning, just the understanding of how conditioning works with our domesticated and beloved pack animal, the dog! A warning to all new dog owners, never allow your dog to assume to be the alpha leader of the pack withing your home! They must understand the human is always the alpha at all times. It begins immediately after you bring your new dog home... never allow the dog to do whatever it chooses. Set the boundaries early and stick to them. Otherwise, it will make it very difficult to condition your dogs behavior. Once the dog has asserted itself as the alpha within your home, it will always show a dominant behavior! That's one of the biggest reasons why so many dogs owners give up and give them away to shelters. Remember, dogs will always follow their instincts until you have established the conditional behaviors you seek. As we all know, not every dog is the same, though their instincts basically are, their breed, temperament and disposition are not! That is were Cesar Millan's expertise has risen to a very highly regarded status! As we all know, there are times when any dogs behavior can become unpredictable, the same applies to humans as well!!!

We adopted a feral German shepard mix that was afraid of EVERYTHING!! We adopted your wise techniques to help her become a safe, calm, confident awesome companion. We even used her to help us foster greyhounds right off the race tracks, her calm energy helped them to make the adjustment from being a race hound to being a pet. Thank you Cesar. My Bailey is now an old girl and has seen me through some really tough times. We are both stronger because of you! God bless you!

This video should be required viewing for ALL dog owners everywhere. All these dog rescue places should provide a free copy to new dog owners. My neighborhood sounds like a kennel all day long from constant dog barking.............

Mirror, mirror - the dog is 4 legged version of Grandma, full of nervous energy. How nice to see a well mannered young man in Mason that can speak with eye contact, respect and confidence and not look at his shoes and communicate with "like" and "in it".

I wonder how many dogs bites were preceded by: “He won’t hurt you” Famous last words !!

I LOVe this short video clearly defining leadership! This can be especially difficult for many women I think, including me! So I appreciate seeing it defined and modeled like Cesar does.

Such a nice, polite young man. Did my heart good. I hope he and his grandma can become closer after they get the barking stopped.

The grandson worked it out, that the dog is protecting Grandma. As Cesar said, very smart. I think he convinced his mom not to leave him in the house and that was correct, given that the Grandma wasn't handling everything to the right way.
