I agree, he may need some polish, but you can’t start comparing him to Camarena, Brownlee, Flores or even back when A young Rockwell Blake to the stage. He’s def missing that color throughout his mid range. But he’s the tenor of the future. Wishing him nothing but the best!!!

Wonderful young artist and singer. But I would have had such a battle with the stage director. While the tenor is singing his heart out, and very beautifully, the director has tried every trick in the book to upstage the tenor...to draw the attention away from the singer. Fool! It is all about the singer here!

This is a developing young Artist. He is Just starting out of course he has not the polish and experience of these older and more seasoned singers but he certainly has the voice and a wonderful technique. Give him time and experience and the chance to work with really good musicians and Conductors and this young man shall surprise you, He has the quality!

@@joemiller6975 Joe, you may well be right, and I hope you are. We need young singers who can do what the "Big Three" have been doing as they move toward retirement some day. But keep in mind that coloratura can get harder, not easier, with the passage of time. Juan Diego Flórez was already sensational back in 1997 when he was 24 years old. (Check his singing in the recording of the live concert "Rossiniana" from Milan.) And when I heard him live for the first time on Feb 2, 2002 in a Met radio broadcast of "Il Barbiere di Siviglia" (at age 29), I knew I was hearing a kind of agility, authority, and charisma that had been unknown in the entire 20th century (and maybe in the 19th but we have no recordings for certainty). Beautiful tenor voices such as those of mid-century singers Nicola Monti, Luigi Alva, and Cesare Valletti did not come close to Floréz's rapid-fire flexibility. They sounded like many baritones and bases do today when they try to sing coloratura, "smudging" the runs. In fact, it is awkward to hear those tenors performing next to and with sopranos and mezzos like Callas and Simionato, to say nothing of Sutherland and Horne. Take a look at the KZbin recordings of this same aria by Flórez, Brownlee, and Camarena. I think you'll see what I mean. And compare not only the singing itself but also their faces with Anduaga's. He is very wooden in expression here, perhaps because what he is attempting is so difficult and he really needs to concentrate. But take a look at Brownlee, especially. It will knock your socks off! And this must be the effect that Rossini was aiming for. One other thought: perhaps bel canto, and in particular Rossini with all those roulades, is not the right repertoire for Xabier. His lovely sound might be more effective in straightforward lyrical music.

@@jamesnickoloff6692 Here on YT You can see Xabier, Anduaga being coached in a Master Class by Florez who seems very much impressed by this kid who he rightly calls at then age 21 a Baby , Florez coaches him in the Aria Una Furtiva and in the ending of Si Ritrovarla from La Cenerentola. Florez gives him some much needed tips and instructs him on how to not force down or tire the voice. Having listened to many up and coming young tenors of promise, Xabier stands out for the naturalness and beauty of his voice and I feel he is a gifted and intelligent young man who is attempting to learn and study with the best coaches and musicians he has access to. Artist develop at different points and stages . Some bloom later than others . I think Xabier Anduaga will over time be one of the outstanding voices of the future in the Bel Canto and Lyric repertoire. Florez seems to agree and applauds his efforts. I think you will enjoy watching rhis clip. Florez has a knack for teaching and is funny, warm and sensitive to young Singers. I admire both Florez and Camarena for working with young developing Artist while they are still in their prime and not waiting till retirement to do so.

@@joemiller6975 Thanks for directing me to this master class, Joe. What strikes me most here is Xabier's humility. He was already a fine performer but was willing to be coached and critiqued by the master. However, little attention was given in this lesson to coloratura--and that is what I think Anduaga is far less skilled at than Flórez, Brownlee, or Camarena. I'm not a singer or teacher of singing, but it seems to me that coloratura is a matter of technique, of agility, more than of intelligence or beauty of tone. He has the latter, but not the former. And without that, you can't really be a great Rossini singer (in any range). As I said before, I think coloratura gets harder with age, not easier.

escuche grabaciones de Juan Diego Florez cuando salió al estrellato a sus 23 años y de verdad sus capacidades vocales y artisticas ya eran de un cantante muy experimentado a este joven que si no me equivoco tiene 22 o 23 años tiene un timbre muy bonito pero le falta , mucha técnica y claro es normal porque tiene 23 años unos años mas y veremos

@@TenoreMr A lot of technical problems, actually. Funny, that you haven't mentioned them. They are too obvious. Mr. Anduaga needs a lot of work and study, despite he won the Operalia prize. But one interested in opera know what this Domingo's conquest really is. There are a lot of tenors who can sing this peace much better and with true Rossinian style which Anduaga doesn't have. Nevertheless wish Mr. Anduaga career success.
