Good thing is I nailed level 1 yesterday because I didn't spend time trying to memorise things, but rather understand 90% of the content and memorising was just the emergency tool for when I hit the wall with some stuff. One comes to realise content is forgotten eventually with the process of preparation of the exam as material is so abundant and dense that you really need to create connections among content and relate things and formulas with the help of some common sense. It doesn't matter how high your IQ is, you get recked at some point relying solely in memory gods.

Nuclear energy is the most energy-dense energy source, and has the largest capacity factor (actually some hydro plants can have higher capacity factors, but this is very dependent on location and type). Efficiency is desired-output/required input. For thermal power plants (nuclear, coal, natural gas, garbage incineration...) the required input is the thermal power of the plant and the desired output is the electrcal power generated. For thermal power plants the efficiency depends only on the temperature difference between the heat source (fuel or some fluid connected to the fuel) and the condenser (outdoor temperature). I guess it depends on how you measure "efficient". If it is the mass of fuel used, then nuclear is the most efficient. If you are measuring the waste heat, then nuclear is not, although it can be if someone designs such a nuclear power plant that is more efficient than current natural gas plant. But in the power plant industry efficiency is measured by the electricsl power generated over the thermal power generated by the fuel.

Great tips on changing the approach for Level 2. Thank you Mark! Love your videos, super valuable. Also I agree, Thinking Fast and Slow is a fantastic book. A related book that is amazing is The Undoing Project by Michael Lewis - describes their life stories and how it shaped the way they see the world, which lead to their professional partnership and research.

This is the first time I have seen this video even though it is several years old. Wish I saw it before as I am a CPA who has failed Level II three times using Kaplan. Just followed the same approach I used with them to pass Level I and never caught on regarding the right approach to pass Level II. 2,100 hours over three tests. My wife is no longer willing to live without me during our hours after work or on weekends. So, I am no longer pursuing this goal. Good ideas though!!!

If there is new content for 2018, that will be changed. If a reading stays the same, then no changes are needed. I will be adding some extra content just for clarity for Derivatives and fixed income however regardless of any changes.

Taking level 1 in June but will keep this in mind come august. How do you feel about taking other exams in between? E.g.: The CAIA? Which one would you recommend and why? Thanks again Mark. Videos are great. PS.: I drive 30 mins to and from work every day. Do you have another source for some sound bites ? Quant is hard to take in while driving!

Well, CAIA is for Alternative Investments. FRM (financial risk manager) is more closely aligned with the CFA.

Good Morning Mark I just cleared my L1 exam last week , and i am contemplating doing my L2 . How long would you ideally suggest for preparation ? I am a student and will graduate in April , so i have Feb and March where i can partially concentrate on it and 2 months (Apr & May) wherein i can focus all my attention towards preparation. I am keen on doing it though i am also very skeptical considering its nearly $1000 and postponing it would mean pushing it back a year which is not ideal. Given my situation , what would you advise?
@MarkMeldrum8 жыл бұрын
You may not even be able to qualify to write L2 in June given that you are not yet done school. Better call CFAI and check first.

Should i start by the good/ bad subjects? Put less time on certain subjects? Learn more on my "strong" subjects so I still score over 70?

sir, i will taking the level 2 exam by june 2018 so i hv at least more than a year to prepare. if i want to start the preparation now, should i start with the 2017 curriculum book from CFA which comes upon registration (a friend of mine is doing the exam this june 17) or should i start with the prep books such as swescher notes or should i wait till the 2018 curriculum is out? thnks.
@MarkMeldrum8 жыл бұрын
I always think the source books are best. I would go with CFAI. Year over year there are changes, but the are usually limited to 4 or 5 readings. So out of 52 readings, 45 or so will remain the same. So you can use 2017 and just update for 2018 when those will be out in late July.
