Excellent explanation, but I've noticed that on June 6, 2007 the flat yield curve gradually turned steeper in the subsequent 7 weeks due to worsening credit market turmoil and increased FED rate cut, would this have been an exception or does it depend in what cycle of the economy we are in, pls clarify this for me since I am reading a book about this and some of your explanations coincide with the book which I'm reading but in other examples it really throws me off?

I would argue that a upward sloping yield curve signals a healthy economy and vice versa. You stated at 3:00ish that the curve on the screen displayed a uncertain / unhealthy economy? Am I wrong?

Yield curves have generally been upward sloping because of the fact that investors demand higher returns for longer holding periods. The low-interest rates in the graphs indicate that the government wants to stimulate economic growth by lowering interest rates and hence increasing liquidity in the economy; which in turn means that the economy is not doing so well at the moment.IFT support team
