CFB DEEP DIVE - Texas vs. Michigan (HOW BAD WAS IT FOR MICHIGAN?)

"Good" kicker doesn't explain poor coverage. In fact, it makes the need to turn and chase all the more alarming. "You guys didn't KNOW I could kick it that deep? Where have you been all practice sessions?" I could have sworn that Michigan was a Major Football Program, so I'd have assumed their coverage teams know know that "fast returners" existed. But they acted like this was their first encounter. For good news, they didn't need kick coverage very often in this game. Not even punt coverage was used too much. Against Southern Cal, by the way, they seemed in-step with them, just fine... hmmm...

The opening kickoff should have rang alarms - the coverage team ALL had to turn and chase - as if they never realized kick-returners could be fast! ALARM!! "Shocking Speed" or "Unexpected Speed" seemed to mark Texas possessions.
