I was at the game last night as a birthday gift from my sons. Spending the first half listening to BC fans make all kinds of noise over how 'great' their team is was wearing on my nerves. The second half and OT changed all that and aside from those two misadventures near the red zone, the Blue managed to keep my blood pressure in check and send the orange crowd home wandering, "What if?" All in all, the game was definitely worth the price of admission. Thanks guys.

Great game with BC winning the first half and Winnipeg the second and most importantly the Overtime. BC has some great talent but gets pushed around by the larger teams of Toronto and Winnipeg especially on the Defensive Line. Vernon Adams showed he's improved by keeping his cool and he had lots of time most plays but those much-acclaimed BC Receivers were often too well covered. Since BC does not have a big strong Running Back, they are not a championship team.

10:35 To NFL/NCAA fans watching: In the CFL, if a play is blown dead with ANY time left, even if the clock hits 0:00 before the next snap, another play MUST be run before the quarter can end. What the receiver could have done here was to go down on the 30 and give the Lions a 40 yard FG shot to win the game outright. Instead he goes “death or glory” and … well …

@@cephalotus1013 All he had to do was make the distance, to prevent the Bombers from running the ball out of the end zone in case of a miss. If Whyte doesn't put it through the uprights, but gives it enough leg to take it out of bounds at the end of the field, they would've scored a rouge, and won the game by a point. No...there is no doubt in my mind that _this was a screw-up of potentially season-defining proportion._ Now, to get to the Grey Cup, BC almost certainly will have to win in Winnipeg on November 11th, where the average temperature over the last 10 years on that date is -4.5°C (-7 with wind chill) at the time of kickoff (17h30 CST), playing against a Bombers team that is built to run the rock (which is the best strategy to employ in cold-weather games). I still think they can do it, but they would've been SO much better off in the covered dome of BC Place, where they could play to their strengths.
@elrolo3711 Жыл бұрын
Fun to watch and the game went much as I expected. WBBombers have the power running back when it matters. Oliveira dominates and other receivers are strong runners like Demski, Shoan, Lawlor etc are hard to bring down. BC Lions are one dimension, with no running game. Lions game suits indoor stadium. Grey cup is in Hamilton where the wind and weather can be harsh so running game is crucial.

@VoIcanoman Жыл бұрын
Holy crap, what a game. I know it was hyped up as the "game of the season" or whatever, and I was skeptical that it would be...but it exceeded all the hype, and then some. That said, the game was only exciting because Winnipeg shot themselves in the foot a few times. Sure the 1st-quarter PI call was a bit soft, but it was also unnecessary, given that the receiver was in double-coverage and the chance for a TD was decidedly less than a 1-yard push by Dom Davis and the jumbo unit that is the result of a PI penalty in the end zone. And then Zach goes and fumbles TWICE in the 4th quarter...jeez. I put the 1st fumble equally on him and the offensive line, because he had no idea that Betts was coming up behind him, and an O-line should never put their QB in a position where they're that vulnerable. Still, hanging on to the ball for too long has its consequences. The second fumble though, that's all Zach. So BC really should have been out of this one, as the Bombers could have easily gotten 6 points (minimum) out of those possessions, had the fumbles not happened. And that brain fart by Rhymes at the end of the game....holy crap. That is a season-defining play right there, as it will likely result in BC having to come to Winnipeg on November 11th to play the Blue Bombers for the right to meet Toronto (probably) in the Grey Cup. Again. And in weather that will likely be -5°C (or colder), plus windchill at kickoff, that game will be a slug-fest with very few successful deep shots, and most of the yards being gained on the ground...i.e. the exact type of game that Winnipeg wants to play. They have their superstar back in Oliveira, and as long as he's healthy, he is their ticket to a very special Green Day concert in Hamilton, Ontario. I know QBs usually get the MOP nomination, but if there was any year when a RB could challenge for it, it's 2023.

@VoIcanoman Жыл бұрын
My exact thoughts at the time. You're up 3, and there's what, 1 minute 55 sec on the clock. You can force the Bombers to scrimmage from their 15 to 20-yard line, and make them get 50 yards to get into field goal range. If they're mostly relying on the run game (plus short, safe passes) as Winnipeg is wont to do (Osh is notoriously conservative in his play-calling, especially in close games), that means it's going to take at least 6 or 7 plays (each one taking 10+ seconds off the clock, which would keep running after the Oliveira carries), and likely at least 1 3rd-down gamble to get there. And forget about the touchdown threat (which was a real possibility given what did happen). I think the Bombers would've managed to tie it, but it would have been very close. *BC clearly did not have confidence in their defence.* Which was stupid - that defence played 10X better than their offence in the 2nd-half. It was the only reason they were IN the game to begin with.

His right foot was in play, right beside Bighill's stretched-out left hand, which was on the ground on the *field end* of the 3-ft long hash mark, when he made the reach/dive, making hm nearly a full 3 feet in-bounds [actually, the way his right leg was oriented, which you can see through the sound parabola of the sound man, his right foot was probably 4 feet in-bounds] - i.e. not even close. There are multiple sources on the internet showing this frame.

@@coconutbrain4601 To be clear, with respect, I am very well aware of the rules as I have been an 'invested' watcher of football since the 60's. Further, I am 'almost' an equal fan of both teams for various reasons since I had started following the CFL in the 60's, just slightly towards B.C. since I was born and raised here, so this is not a partisan 'homer' call for me. Frankly, I don't think you actually watched the game, didn't see the sideline perspective and are basing your opinion just on this video. I was giving your ability to interpolate the information I related, without explaining everything, too much credit. So that we are working with the same facts, the line-to-gain was Winnipeg's 52 yard line. The ref spotted the ball at the Winnipeg 53, a full yard short. From the sideline view and from a screenshot from this angle of his reach towards the marker, Vernon transferred the ball from his left hand to right hand, the hand furthest from the sideline, close and across his head at the 54 yard line while he was about 6 feet from the sideline, planted his right foot, the foot furthest from the sideline, at the 53 1/2 yard line about 4-5 feet from the sideline in order to extend forward and to his left toward the marker at the 52. So at the marker that the refs placed the ball, Vernon was not out of bounds, which Farhan and Matt were assuming the refs were saying (why I was originally referencing where Vernon's feet were in perspective to the sideline/where they placed the ball, which I thought your comment _[ "Nah he reached for it out of bounds"]_ was referring too... and another reason why I believe you didn't actually watch the game). At the time the ball was at the 53, where the refs spotted the ball, the ball was a full 3 feet away from the sideline as Vernon was halfway into his stretch/lunge with the ball in his hand (right) furthest from the sideline (why he transferred from left to right at or near the 54 yard line a full 5 or 6 feet away from the sideline). How then can it be that _"... When Adams reached for the marker the ball was already out of bounds"?_ In my estimation, the ball crossed the plane of the sideline, before it hit the ground, _[i.e. the only part of the out-of-bounds rules, not involving the end zone, that relates to the plane of the sideline - the other part, not involving the end zone, relates to the yardage location of the ball when a body part contacts the sideline or beyond],_ *at the line-to-gain,* or if short, only a couple of inches of the line-to-gain _[what I thought during live play],_ but *not a full yard short.* The only way your version could be true at the 53, with Vernon's both feet 3-4 feet away from the sideline, is if he had the ball in his left hand attached to an abnormally long arm, fully extended across the sideline from the 53 for the entire duration of his lunge then have the ball land on or beyond the sideline without coming back in the field of play prior to landing. Didn't happen.

What IS SAD, are the poor crowds. I was sure this would be a sell-out . Winnipeg has had 3 consecutive sell outs, and most are almost sold out. tells you something. Fantastic game.

They are 11-5 with a ticket to the playoffs...what are you complaining about?

People just need something to whine about. I would not care if my team were 0-10 I would be there to support them.

Just pencil in WPG vs TOR in the Grey cup the next 2 years at least. I have to say this league has really gone downhill in the last five years.

Lol! The CFL has not gone downhill. The games are as exciting as ever. Collaros is not getting better, and the Bombers as a team are aging. I will be surprised if the Bombers continue to dominate for 2 years.
@qwiklok Жыл бұрын
@coconutbrain4601 The coaches know that. BUT, they have reserves in QB who won a critical game 2 months ago and came back from way behind and won. They will remain leading roles for a long time.

@@qwiklok meh, I’m not sold on Dru Brown yet. He’s been pretty up and down in limited playing time, but we will see.

@@coconutbrain4601 We haven't seen enough, agreed. but got the job done. in 3 quarters. mind you, look at the rest of the WBB. amazing team.

Guess who has beat Arrghos and Lionesses last two games now has momentum 1st place in the West and home field advantage on lock...where they have lost only 4 games in the past 35? Might as well engrave Blue Bombers on the Cup right now.
