It hurts me to see at this young talent cry but we must admit that it was a very disputed game !!! Congrats to both of you...

Chess is a micrcosm of human emotion and life's struggles. We fight our demons and tribulations as we battle through our chess games. Chess reflects life, just as music reflects life, and both share the full gamut of emotions. Young Yunker is an immensely talented chess player that has a lot on her mind. But that mind (and intelligence) of hers is way beyond the average person. I pray that she is given all the love and comfort she needs, and I'm sure she is getting it from her family and friends. I will keep watching and enjoying the remarkable chess that A. Junker plays. Lots of love and best wishes from Emilio, down in Adelaide, South Australia.

she is incredible - if she would only watch the game more carefully instead of looking around in the room, she would rise up to much higher levels, but well, she's still a kid ....but such a promising talent - wow

May I say that I don't think you realize just how aware Alisa is on the chess board and in the game of chess. She is an exceptionally gifted young chess player that has an aptitude well beyond what the average person understands. She realizes exactly where she made the wrong move and her emotions come out on occasions as tears. This young girl also has strong feelings about her games which I have seen before. I don't think one should dwell on this emotion that most of us human beings have.

But, do you agree with iiisolda that she needs to focus on the board more or you suggest that she can play blindfold and as she is looking around the room she is doing calculations in her head?

I sometimes feel like she's almost willing herself to never even glance at the chessboard until it's her turn to play a move. I'm not sure why she does.. seems to be a Yunker thing.

Alisa, you have a lot of fans here who support you, what you do at your age is exceptional, and it's in defeat that you learn best, you're going to be 10 in 2024, think about all that and do we all enjoy, take your defeats as apprenticeships, and the stronger you will be ! when you take a defeat like that, think about your revenge and tell yourself that you are young compared to him, sooner or later you will make him pay :)

I must agree with your reply in so many ways. As a young classical guitar student in Canberra back in 1968, I auditioned for a music scholarship that was won by a boy who played on an expensive instrument, from an affluent family background. The boy forgot his music that day and I even rode my bike home to get his music. After not getting the scholarship I told my father that the following year I would play a piece that not even my teacher could play. In 1969 I won my scholarship, but I had to practice damn hard that year.

@10:07 Alice just needs to calmly assess her superior position and find the right moves using logic. The rook she moved was in no way threatened .. it was protected by the pawn. The weak link was her least advanced pawn and her King was one move away. She has two squares to choose, 1 light 1 dark. Her opponent has a light square bishop, so choose the dark square (also attacks his rook so is the clear cut winner) All of this should be easy to calculate in a few seconds for a player of her caliber if she can stay calm amd not panic like she obviously did. The loss hurts but it will be a great learning experience for her.

It was sad to see her cry. I understand she is an emotional player but I think her coach, father or parent were any e making gestures during the game. That crying read to me like she was dreading the sermon she was going to get from her father. She will lose the pleasure of playing the game if she is not nurtured.

Ms Yunker should be coached on the dignity of a well timed tactical retirement. I am amazed that the adults dont seem to care about comforting or encouraging the young lady. She is really quite special but they dont seem to notice that. Both players seemed quite casual until the clock ran down to about 5 seconds, then they both played with furious urgency, even when the clock was upcounted back to 25 seconds. Could they not have afforded to invest a little more analysis at that point?
