I had no idea that their Strength of Schedule was so LOW (111th)!!! Besides Minnesota and Rutgers being on that '23 Conference Schedule........Purdue, Michigan St., and Maryland were other "perennial BIG 10 bottom feeders" they had the "comfort" of playing in 2023. The end of the VT game and the no targeting against Cal were not correct calls. Sorry to burst your bubble. Miami should have at least 1 loss and has no defense
@thenorsegodsdiscgolf57514 сағат бұрын
@ You are letting the hate cloud your judgement. If you honestly believe the VT debacle was a legitimate catch, then you are not objectively watching the same play as me. As far as the targeting play, I saw a shoulder to shoulder hit. Even if it was targeting, there was 2 minutes left on the clock and Miami had 3 timeouts. Cal had gotten many (0) first downs in the fourth quarter and likely would have punted after 3 more plays. Not to mention all the calls that didn’t go Miamis way. Nobody mentions those plays. There were several against Miami in both games. Listen, Miami has an elite offense. This is likely the best offense Miami has ever had. Sure, Cam is a stud. So is the OL/DL/WR/RB/TE position groups. We have an SEC type group in the trenches. Anyone saying Miami is overrated just doesn’t watch their games.

@@garyco766 and yet, somehow, they still could beat any team in the country. That’s what makes Miami a top 5 team. They can lose to a bunch of teams, but they are also good enough to beat anybody. Their offense is A+++++++ A great defense will not stop them from scoring.

I don't know why Joel does not say the quiet part out load. The reason the brackets are messed up is the automatic qualifier conference champions instead of the 4 best teams. Those 4 brackets are set regardless of what the committee thinks. We need the 4 best teams. You could still keep the conference champs but even there a problem will show there at some point in the future.
@brandonL1828 минут бұрын
100%. The committee looks at the “blue blood” programs from the perspective of “prove that they don’t belong” and any other team from the perspective of “prove that they do belong”. It’s a gimme for the cfb favorites and an uphill battle for anyone else

I think Miami deserves a top 5 spot. They have the #1 offense, a top 20 defense drastically. Miami is ranked #1 in 3rd down efficiency and their defense is ranked 12 in 3rd down defense. Miami gets a lot of hate from former players in the media out of envy.

Such brand bias! I’d totally put Indiana & BYU above Miami! Miami is only 4 because people want them to be 4 even though they’re not! Just let me say that they are playing in the ACC! The conference is so weak and Miami is barely beating average or bad teams. Maybe if they can even make it to the ACC championship and get beat by SMU people will finally see that they have no defense and their schedule is almost AAC level! Thanks for the show Mr. Klatt

Indiana's strength of schedule is 103rd in the country, Miami's is 46th. Facts over your biased opinion, and Miami has had a much tougher schedule. As far as barely beating, VT is a very solid team, definitely not average. They almost beat Syracuse and with a backup QB as their starter was hurt. We clobbered Florida, the same Florida who should have beat Georgia if not for losing Lagway. We lead the entire game and beat a now ranked Louisville, and ultimately we beat the spread and handled a Duke team with one of the best defenses in the country. Scored over 50 points and double the points than any other team has. As far as the ACC being weak, they are literally on par with BYU's big 12. It's the SEC/BIG 10 and everyone else, but Indiana has the weakest strength of schedule in their conference, and they're going to lose to Ohio State. Their only tough game.

For me, BYU is the only real issue. I had Indiana 7, BYU 5, Miami 4. Miami does have the highest SOS of the 3 based on computers n power ratings, not people. Miami won at Louisville, won at Florida. And even Duke is higher rated most places than any1 indiana has beaten yet. I di think the argument of miami/byu is a closer call, but indiana should be behind both, imho.

If you think brand bias against #8 Indiana and #9 Brigham Young is so clear, then how do you explain both of them being ranked lower yet in the major computer rankings? Sagarin currently has the Hoosiers 12th and BYU 21st, while Massey has them 11th and 12th. They are by definition unbiased, assuming their preseason rankings are no longer part of the formulas, which I believe they aren't by now.

@garyco766Сағат бұрын
That won't happen to anyone except maybe Army. Indiana will have to beat OSU to remain undefeated, and if they do that they will have to beat Oregon in the B1G championship game to remain undefeated. If they do that, they get a bye and a home game (and probably a #1 ranking). If not, they won't be undefeated.
@kitjenson5 сағат бұрын
Context matters. They should be weighting games later in the season more heavily. I'm not sure how to do this numerically, but teams change so much by years end with injuries/confidence/players swaps/etc. Week 1 matters sure... but it's clearly not the same as week 12/13. This is why these fist ranking matter so much. Where you start often dictates where you end. A team ranked 9th losing a game almost certainly drops them out of the top 12, but #3 losing likely results in staying in the field of 12. Prime example is BYU in 1984... their lone National Championship... they beat #3 Pitt in week one. This vaulted them from unranked to #13, they won out against a mediocre schedule and took the championship. Pitt finished 3-7-1 that year. An objectively bad football team. it didn't matter, the damage was done in week one.

I think there's too much panic regarding Indiana. This ranking really tells us they don't put too much against losing to good teams. Ohio State is still at No.2 after a 1 pt loss to No.1. And most importantly, if Penn State is still at No.6 after a home loss to OSU, then bottom line Indiana should not drop from their current No.8 spot if they lose to OSU in Columbus unless they got blown out. In terms of BYU, I don't think their fans would have too many complaints. If they win the conference, they'll be the 4th seed regardless of being ranked 3rd or 10th. If they can't win this weak Big 12, they shouldn't be in the playoffs anyways. This is the tradeoff of having an autobid through conference champion. You can be in a weak conference and get in and get a bye by winning it. At the same time if you're the best team in a weak conference but can't take advantage of the conference champ, then you shouldn't be in the playoffs. Same goes for Miami. So at the end of the day, the issue is about Miami, not Indiana or BYU.
@ORLOSTguy6 сағат бұрын
Brand Bias. So, what you're really saying is the problem is the rankings and CFP committee. Since the BCS era I have been lobbying for college football to change its structure to four Power Conferences. This would include a commissioner; balanced schedules and no games played against non-Power Conference teams. Each conference has 16 teams with two divisions of 8 teams. Conference Champions go to playoff and get a homefield advantage in first round. Conference runner up get into playoff and play against a different conference champion. So basically an 8-team playoff. Notice what is missing? No rankings needed. No committee needed. CFP determined on the field.
@orangecrushhex6 сағат бұрын
Brand bias plays a factor, but I'm not aware that BYU and Indiana have played any ranked opponents this year. If I'm wrong about this, please let me know. Certainly, this held up Michigan last year from being ranked higher until they beat Penn St. and Ohio St. This isn't the players or coaches fault, but it is what it is.

Great video! Agreed 100%. The good news is these teams will be able to help themselves down the stretch: - Indiana beating Ohio St. will flip those two in the rankings. - UGA winning out will drop UT down some with another loss, but then likely bumping Bama since they won head to head - BYU winning out, beating a ranked team in the Big 12 championship - SMU beating Miami...repeat...SMU beating Miami. Did you see how bad they beat Pitt? Its a good bet they will light up Miami's D. And of course they lost to BYU which helps BYU's resume. - added bonus...I'm not sold that Texas will win out, especially playing A&M on the road. They have to win that game or they likely get bumped from the playoffs.
