40:58 Does the UN have an Israel problem? Yes, the problem is that Israel is never held accountable for its atrocities. I hope that changes in my lifetime.

41:52 Will the US accept Palestinian statehood? Palestine lacks the crucial element of Israel's consent for Palestine to exist. Every right minded American should demand Palestinian statehood from their representatives.

Thank you... Power is never ceded, but what constructive purpose is served by the veto power?
@InCrazyTimes
@InCrazyTimes Ай бұрын
That is why I believe the first reform must be to ensure state and member actions and that of UNSC are in accordance with International Courts rulings and international law, Having a problem with the courts ruling is different from putting your own evaluation above the law. You cannot support international law when you agree and only when you agree. And especially you cannot use US political and economic power to pressure everyone including the courts to bend to your will
@InCrazyTimes

In fact, there is no constructive purpose, but there could be. for that to be the case there would have to be the kind of balance of ideologies regions and politics that there could then be some kind of veto that would require several votes to block a resolution or action or alternatively require a super majority to overturn. this will only work if the security counsel includes a significant number of players that are among the line nations, not guaranteed to uphold a veto or not based the interest of any particular country. If we look at the nonaligned Nationsl the primary area where they all agree is frankly around the problem of US intervention no other nation maintains military bases or presents as many nations around the world anywhere close to that of the United States. The United Nations is based on the ideas of sovereignty, not acquiring land or occupation through force and so forth. This approach of the US is against international law and that is the fundamental problem we have in the United.Nations. in order to avoid the double standards that make the UN only able to do good when it happens to be in alignment with the US perspective and interest.. there would need to be some kind of a check whereby you could not veto something like acting the ICJ provisional measures or making a statement that a nation dislikes find unacceptable that is stating an important principle of international law and so forth. there should be check at the very least before exercise of a veto would be permitted. They could use some of the systems that are ready to do that. Of course the United States will not permit such a reasonable and clear leveling of the playing field that would put international law first.. so just as an example. While it’s usually the US that engages in interventions, let’s say another P5 member does so… this would not mean that they could not be stopped because if the P5 member tries to veto appropriate resolutions based on the UN charter, the ICJ and international law- they would not be able to do so. in other words, we need to hold the UN states and especially the security council accountable for the founding principles and laws apart from individual national interest or politics that they wish to promote.

20 August 2024, The UN Palestinian Rights Committee held its 418th Meeting and adopted its Annual Report 2024. In his opening statement, The Chair stated: "As we recently marked the 75th anniversary of the Geneva Conventions, which stand as the cornerstone of international humanitarian law, we are starkly reminded of our responsibility to protect civilians in conflict. Yet, as the world watches on, Gaza is engulfed in a relentless war, claiming over 40,000 Palestinian lives, mostly women and children and leading to a humanitarian catastrophe with mass starvation and total absence of basic services." In the Annual Report the Committee demands that Israel, the occupying Power, reverse its ongoing annexation, home demolitions, settlement expansions and the forced displacement of Palestinians, including women and children. It welcomes the landmark International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion of 19 July 2024. It calls on the General Assembly and Security Council, among other demands, to urgently implement the Advisory Opinion and bring an end to the unlawful Israeli occupation of Palestinian Territory.

The vetos can be overturned when peace is at stake through a Uniting For Peace Resolution IF member states are voluntarily willing to take concrete actions like setting up a tribunal on war crimes in the Occupied Territories, A Protective Force and so forth.

Why Ending or Reforming Veto Power Is Essential: U.S. Influence: The U.S. will only support countries they feel aligned with, such as Germany, Japan, India, and South Africa. These countries are either U.S. allies or are seen as politically necessary (e.g., South Africa, due to the need for African representation). Countries like Indonesia or Mexico, which the U.S. might view as more independent or occasionally adversarial on issues like Palestine, would face strong opposition from the U.S. Block to Genuine Representation: The current veto system ensures that the P5 can block any members that may not align with their interests, effectively preventing countries that represent Global South, Muslim-majority nations, or non-aligned nations from gaining permanent membership. Indonesia and Mexico would likely be seen as threats to the U.S. influence, given their non-aligned stance and support for causes like Palestinian statehood. Need for African Representation: The U.S. would almost certainly support South Africa, because denying African representation in the Security Council would be politically untenable. Africa’s absence from the permanent members would be a major issue in any legitimate reform, and South Africa, being a regional leader, is the most obvious choice. Of course they want a strong US Ally to counter South Africa’s influence .

🛠️ It’s time for the UN to be the world’s moral compass again. Expanding the Security Council is just one step, but we need to make sure the decisions made in that room are fair, just, and legally sound. 🔑 A legal review mechanism will ensure that no country can veto decisions that align with international law. Let’s make the UN stronger for the future. 🌟 #UNForAll #ReformTheUN

The UN has a colonialism and following international law problem. Enact the ICJ Ruling on Occupation (The only one going back decades and in which UN played a role) Simple enact international law and 😂no more Israel problem . You are violating International law with your sending bombs for Genocide , Not forcing occupation to Provide actual safe zones with sanitation etc . All UN States should work to enact ICJ rulings ..if International Law is the foundation not US preferences and power

Veto Lady, there is a reason for Russian special operations. Why do they never talk about what led up to that? Leave the UN rules as they are, not a rules based rules that favor the usa and other western countries. Wanna make changes? Abolish the UN Security Council and use the UN General Assembly to vote on resolutions with no veto power.

The United States has allegedly failed to uphold its responsibilities regarding global peace and security through purported deception and involvement in conflicts worldwide, deploying its military forces across the globe. Conversely, Palestine is perceived to have consistently demonstrated the elements of statehood, even prior to Israel's existence. Some argue Israel's legitimacy is questionable, citing actions such as settlements, land expropriation, apartheid, and alleged genocide, which are deemed illegal under international law. This perspective posits that Israel's actions aim to divert attention from its perceived illegitimacy by seizing Palestinian resources and undermining its sovereignty.
