The Panavia Tornado is a family of twin-engine, variable-wing, multi-role combat aircraft jointly developed and manufactured by Italy, the UK and Germany. The audio commentary in this MSFS preview is very in-depth and full of passion. You can feel the passion. A friend of mine flew this thing for the German Air Force. He was one of the youngest Tornado pilots in Germany and was stationed at Nörvenich AFB. I'll never forget our first solo flight in an ASK 13 when we were teenagers.

Thank you KZbin. I used to work at BAe Warton as a Weight Engineer for about half my time there (started in 89, left in 98). The fun part of the job was checking the cg and weight of actual Tonkas when they were towed on to the weighbridge Warton had ( 3 hangar). Many good times!! We also had to prepare loadsheets for different configs (remember to use the fin fuel before takeoff!). The loadsheets became more time sensitive and important when the Gulf War was on. A beautiful beast of an aeroplane! 13.5 tonnes empty or so, built like a brick outhouse! If a Tornado didn't set off several car alarms on takeoff then it was a tad disappointing. I fondly remember playing Digital Integration's Tornado on my 486 pc back then. Sadly I've forgotten more than I know these days! Happy flight swimming, Chris.

Back in the day my family lived on the edge of a low flying area in the Midlands, and we'd see Tornados, Jaguars, Phantoms, and even the occasional F-111, going over super low and super fast, an amazing sight, so to see this so well represented in the sim is just fantastic and gives us all the chance to experience what it must have been for you guys as pilots. When I was a kid, in the mid-to-late 1980s and the early 1990s we lived up in the far north of Scotland (Caithness). It was the closing days of the Cold War, and the RAF flew both the SEPECAT Jaguar and the Panavia Tornado. At school, on a very regular basis, we'd see Jaguars and Tornados flying overhead at fairly low level - only a few hundred feet. Can't remember whether they were stationed at Leuchars or at Lossiemouth, or both - but they'd pass us by very frequently in those days. I could always tell the Tornado from the Jaguar before I ever saw it approaching. The sound was phenomenal - like the sky being torn in half. These days I live around the Aberdeen area, and I rarely see any RAF jets on patrol - possibly avoiding the airspace so as not to disrupt traffic in/out of Aberdeen Airport? The Tornados and the Jaguars have long since been retired, but the only time I've ever seen a Eurofighter was at an airshow in Peterhead last year (part of Peterhead Week, which involved the BBMF's Avro Lancaster, and a display by the Red Arrows). I miss the Tornado. Such a cool jet.
@cgaviator8 ай бұрын
Like the sky being torn in half, that made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up as that’s exactly how I thought of it when I was a kid! I had a friend that infringed Aberdeen airspace a long time ago! But yes, nothing in that area for fast jets to do sadly.

From your reaction it seems IFE are doing well with this one. Per their usual work in MSFS (and DCS!!) it looks GREAT! Glad to see they've got some "heft" built into the flight model. Hopefully they spend a LOT of time on the FM :) Other than some time in the old X-Trident Tornado for X-Plane, I've got very little experience with Tornado. But it's a fascinating aircraft that's VERY fun & challenging to operate. So many advanced systems, yet still very "steam gauge" in so many ways. Combine all that with not only Mach 2 top speed, but also thrust reverse for ridiculously short landings and we have what just might be one of the most satisfying aircraft to operate in a flight sim. PLEASE do more flights with it - your running commentary based on IRL experience makes your vids so enjoyable! :)

Ah wow this is amazing, must have been amazing to have been an actual fighter pilot, was my childhood dream but never had the balls to follow through with it 😂😂😂 The Tonka looks absolutely amazing, what a machine 👍

Sitting on a train into Brisbane city to yet another doctors appointment and the other pax must be looking and wondering why I had a smile from ear to ear and went “wow!” as you dropped in over lake Bala. I miss Wales so much having spent 13 years visiting The Loop and having had the pleasure to fly around it with 19 Sqn as visiting aircrew. That turn just north of Mach and up the Dovey Valley is tricky as you say and not one photographers get to see or the ridge crossing south of Corris. I have a video my wife shot from Bluebell of pair of GR4’s ripping around the bend from Dinas Mawddwy and blooming with vapour and you can actually see them ‘skidding’/drifting through the air as the lined up for The Bwlch and the Loop Exit. As you say , memories . Can’t wait for this. Being a now disabled veteran MSFS is my only outlet really and the Tornado will really and truly give me a happy place to go when I’m feeling sorry for myself . 🤙🏻

Your words are spot on. Flight sim is also my outlet. A great way to escape to where I’ve been and explore other places. Hopefully it’ll be out soon. All the best

I'm always impressed with how many things you can look at and buttons you can press without crashing. Sometimes I just glance down for a moment and I've climbed a few thousand feet. 😮 In my defense I was an accountant not a fast jet pilot.

This is awesome. It would definitely be cool if the terrain following radar looked forward and allowed you to do things like fly through Scandinavian mountains at low level in low visibility. I really enjoyed the video.

When a tornado comes to DCS, then we’ll see impressive levels of system simulation 🤘🏻

Looking forward to seeing this come to DCS. More advanced flight model, total system simulation and of course the biggest and most important.... weapon delivery. Its what is holding MSFS back

Only seeing as you asked, as a bit of feedback, there’s a Boz pod with flares fitted to Stn 1. Whilst you can (and often do) fit a Boz to Stn 1 as a ‘wing weight’ to reduce FI, you can’t connect it to the aircraft as the pylon wiring is configured for Skyshadow. Even if it was, and the SMS somehow fudged, it’s not in the RTS. So if a Boz pod was fitted to Stn 1, it would be empty of flares.
@cgaviator8 ай бұрын
Yup, there’s an option to fit a skyshadow 👍🏻
