I still hold to the belief that because the acetate cover was not authorized by Marvel and added after publication that it is a violation of Marvel's copyrights and therefore should be rejected for grading. No Blue, Green or any other color label should be given to it. The only thing that CGC should consider with this book going forward in my not so humble opinion is encapsulation, and to be totally honest they would probably be better served to simple say no and wash their hands of the book completely.

I agree. However a green label with a book worth of notes on it and low grades is the next best thing

The part of CGC's last announcement I'm having the most difficulty with is "The grade assigned will take into consideration the grade of the acetate cover as well as the interior book." Since when has CGC only been grading the cover of the book and not the interior? That part of the statement is the biggest black eye to CGC's reputation.

I read it as they would grade it as a cover and not as an interior page since there are different criteria for defects on covers.

This whole thing has been weird. CGC has a pretty good reputation overall and for them to risk that reputation is crazy! CGC can only exist and function if they are seen as pillars of integrity. They need to remain conservative.

This sounds like the logical way to handle these books, although your point they probably shouldn’t grade them at all is legit as well. In any event, they took way too long to get it right.

Or money exchanged hands once I saw the video rant that the owner did of his own accord I don’t put it past him to grease some wheels to get some thing done

Still wrong. They should have graded it just like any other book - blue universal as it sits, deducting for extra holes and extra pieces, or green qualified. Or better yet, refused to grade them in the first place. That they graded the fake acetate cover is a joke.

I’m glad I never fell for the CGC nonsense!!! I’m not opposed to a graded book, for my PC I’m going to submit some of my modern favorite covers to EGS because I like the color coordinated labels.

Yeah, I think third party grading is super helpful in the hobby. CGC is the company people currently have the most faith in which is why I submit there but I almost never buy grades books myself

CGC does not get kudos from me!!! It took them 3 tries to finally say they were wrong when we all knew they were. A person I work with could take 3 tries and no harm no foul, but a company that aims for profit and FINALLY decides they are going to lose money so announce, not except, they were wrong is BS.
