This is not a Tutorial but a Review/Preview of this Hair, Fur, and Feather system, recovering why you may want to purchase this plugin. This 1 of two parts.

This is a great tutorial, thank you. Would love dynamics/animation version of this.

For that I would give more consideration to speed of dynamics so would have done it differently

Exactly the video I needed at this time. I'm getting ready to buy Ornatrix and would like to know if its any better than c4d hair.

Indeed, it's a great plugin for c4d, unfortunately it does not render as you would expect in Arnold...specular/shininess is mostly none/invisible when rendered which I hope would be fixed in future version

My biggest problem with Ornatrix is the paucity of tutorials by ephere explaining its features and building hairstyles from a C4D perspective rather than from a Maya or 3DMax orientation.
@CGDreamsTutorials2 жыл бұрын
Once you understand how the tools function and react, and how the order of operation produces different outcomes it's all down to understanding the anatomy of how hair is constructed in CG. I think taking a linear approach while its nice and streamlined doesn't offer the best advice and reality in that your core skill needs to be problem-solving, and knowing the tools well enough that you can push their boundaries. Would you think an introduction to grooming in CG tutorials would be better before a user gets to learn the tools involved?
@rtamesis2 жыл бұрын
@@CGDreamsTutorials I understand how the tools work from watching their videos for Maya and 3DS Max, but their C4D equivalents are not always apparent, and I don't find their forums to be that much helpful. For example, I asked a question about how to get the Ornatrix hair generated to adopt the underlying texture map, such as from a multicolored animal, and got a non-answer. There are also a gazillion ways to create hair with Ornatrix, and it's not clear from all their videos on KZbin which is the most efficient and least time consuming workflow that produces the best results.

@@rtamesis Totaly get where you're coming from here. What I have found in all areas of CG is that there is no "THE" way, or best way, much is down to spending hours to generate your own workflow from experience. It would be helpfull to pick a style and show how to make it, but my workflow may well change in 6 months because I have found more efficient ways to do the same job. I have not hardly done any 3D work in a while, been taking care of other things, family e.c.t.
@rtamesis2 жыл бұрын
Seeing the workflow of others on how they approach a modeling problem is still useful though because it can serve as a guide for people to get started on the right path from which they can then modify according to their needs.

Great stuff! Will part 2 cover physics?
@CGDreamsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
Yes, I will cover dynamics. Dynamics are set up based on each animated scene, there is no one single setup that works on every scenario which is why you don't see many if not any videos on this subject.

When clump Hair Editing pressed, the guide cannot be selected. why?? just clump editing can selected.
@CGDreamsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
In Clump Hair Editing, you are editing the clumps of hair, not the guides. This lets you select individual hairs then either remove them hairs from clumps applied or apply further clumps to selected hairs within a clump.

On the first day of playing with the demo I was thinking "why do I need this?" but after I got deeper in, I can see how versatile it is compared to C4d hair. I like the ability to drive hair with mesh strips because I can use x particles cloth for dynamics. I wasn't too impressed with the Moov physics in Ornatrix, but that's the only weak spot for me. Although I may need to try harder to get a good result with it..but at first glance Moov looks and operates like garbage.
@CGDreamsTutorials3 жыл бұрын
I havent looked too much into dynamics yet, but when I do I will be hitting it hard and work with Ephere with my findings.

Actually, after getting in a little deeper with the Moov physics I've changed my mind. It's good. I bought the plugin today.

@@CGDreamsTutorials I'd love to hear more on your thoughts about dynamics as that is essential to my workflow and why I use C4D and not Maya (hair dynamics are much easier in C4D). But this ornatrix looks interesting. I've also heard some folks have issues with rendering the hair in Maya...any thoughts here. BTW absolutely love you vids.

Ornatrix is a niche plugin that will be targeted at character artists. I dont know how much it cost to develop such plugins but I would assume the price reflects the niche demand. For many, C4D or Maya's own hair system is enough, Ornatrix lets the 3D groomer artist home in on their skills to produce exceptional styles while taking into account the less skilled who want good results with fewer efforts. It is expensive, but they do offer a good discount on upgrades.
