From what I've been seeing, a lot of people are theorizing that she might have a connection to, or is a fragment of Jenova. Which makes since given the lore they have regarding her, the Jenova like blurred object in one of the cutscenes + a black robe, and one of the murals in the Temple of the Ancients seeming like it depicts Jenova is a similar form/attire (on top of the hologram straight up having Jenova become the Loveless goddess). Honestly the more and more I explore Rebirth, the more it seems like Jenova is a much bigger threat this time around and almost feels like its builidng up to something.

I wonder if, like with Regina and the Queen, we'll get to free Sephiroth of Jenova, this time. Looking at his Ever Crisis chapters, square's been real sympathetic towards the guy recently... Imo you can't separate Sephiroth from the absolute tragedy that is his entire life, so I don't see them redeeming him per se. It's not. There is a part in the main story where you are asked to take part in a tournament on a ship that is heading to the third region. Even then, though, you can join it and then forfeit.
