Apologies to people who left a comment on the other upload or were in the process of watching it. KZbin obviously wasn't going to get the video processed in HD and I'm not going to let it stay up in 360p-only.

I love the original PlayStation to the degree that I get curious about even the most unassuming and seemingly passable games. I can't get enough of this console. I'm really glad you're feeling better, Chris, and I hope you're able to keep up with that personal goal you set about one upload a week. But I just appreciate any time I see you produce something new, the podcast included. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, my friend.

Back in the 5th gen we got the Saturn first and years later the PS1, the transition from the Mega Drive/SNES to a powerful console that could bring arcades at home, 3D FPS, Fighting, RPGs and many great exclusives made Sega's console quite special and dear to us, so the PS1 didn't have the same impact, but we played it for many years, up to 2003/2004. It has so much stuff yet for us to uncover. It's well known the Saturn did well in Japan, but in actuality, the PS1 stomped it, there are over 2.000 titles left there alone, I mean, not counting over 1.000 titles that shared release over the world, or developed in the West that never made back to Japan. I see many SEGA-centered channels and I always wondered why there's no such thing I could find for the PS consoles, it has an astonishing amount of content to cover, while the Saturn and Dreamcast have both great libraries and many of them exclusives, it should be a no-brainer a dedicated channel to the original PS to be out there. Segaretro.org and now Necretro.org are passionate sites, and while psxdatacenter is great, it lacks the same level of polish and high quality scans, without manuals or magazines, granted, it's maintained by a single guy.

Kyosho is another big RC manufacturer like Tamiya. I remember back in my senior year of high school (2001-2002) I bought one of their Mini-Z cars, which is this really cool series of 1/24 scale cars that you can get either RWD or 4WD, and sparked my interest in RC. I never raced "professionally", didn't have the money for that, but I got into 1/10 scale drift cars in the mid to late-2000s (never got that good at them) but I had the most fun with 1/10 scale short-course trucks which are so much fun to drive off-road.

We had a range of healthy and tactile activities, this episode serves as a reminder those born before the internet became as available as air, we had RC, played hide and seek, practiced sports, skaters, marbles, rollerblades, table football, card games, board games, the golden age of arcade and console that we watched growing with us, iconic TV shows/movies, great music, friends and more. While all the above may sound too colorful and nostalgic from the writer's perspective, we all know that nothing was perfect, just like today, the real contrast is how different the current and next generations are compared to those born in the 80's and before, too different, in fact. You'll always have something to talk about, Chris. There's just too much transformation from that time and today it will be hard for your generation to not talk about something interesting. I'm from '85 and I feel I should have been born in the 1920's or something. Since I was a kid I had this sort of comforting feeling when I visited old houses, watch 20's and 40's movies, and so on. All this reminds me of that 1,50$ hot dog you mentioned in the podcast, that's exactly what I'm talking about. As a side-note, I just reminded watching this Japanese channel the other day, a guy who covers video games and he also seems to enjoy RC cars a lot, controlling the little cool SUV over little rocks, gardens and the such, making a rather long video about it, really cool to see that.

Sorry to hear you got covid Chris, glad you're okay. I caught it twice, the first time was bad, spent several days in the hospital. Excited to see you do more of these awesome uploads!

I liked on your Flashback eps when you would put a cold-open type clip where you would have a little blooper from the upcoming ep. Not sure if that was unique to that series, but you could do something like that or just say an obscure quote or lyric from something in the game, like “a pool of water!”, and then put your traditional CGQ+ jingle if that’s not too complex.

i love tamiya cars, around 2000 we got into tamiya racing and we got the cars that would travel automatically on the tracks. the local hobby shop had tamiya tournaments and when you won they gave out gift cards. we would upgrade the car and keep winning every tournament until they stopped doing them. good times!

So, here are some notable weekend rentals I had. They were: Nobunga's Ambition for the NES, Moto Roader for the TG-16, Lakers versus Celtics and the NBA Playoffs for the Genesis, and NHL Hockey for the Genesis. Of the three, only NHL Hockey lead to a purchase of the game. The rest just didn't cut the mustard in one way or another for me. Apart from that, really love the series. Take care and looking forward to many more game examinations yet to come.

I love all of your content Chris, I especially enjoy your injection of nostalgia before bed and I recently discovered your podcast. I love it all. I've only seen three weekend episodes so far, but at the moment my favorite is the Madden episode, I never owned that version and I really enjoyed your personal commentary about the NFL circa 1990. Here are a few of my suggestions for a weekend rental episode: 1) Pirates! Gold for Genesis, a Sid Meier game. There are many versions, the Apple IIGS version is my personal favorite because of nostalgia and the amazing music. The Genesis version is also great and more accessible, randomly one day my mom bought a used copy for me from Blockbuster - I still have it, it needs a new battery. It's an action/adventure/strategy game. As a young man you become a pirate captain, you do your best to earn fame, gold, land, and overall happiness by rescuing family members and finding a wife - who's personality is directly tied to her beauty. When you retire at the end of the game your new legitimate occupation is determined by how well you accomplished all of these goals. 2) Star Wars: Shadows of the Empire for N64 (I had it for PC) is a third person shooter based on the Legends graphic novel about the time between The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi. 3) Star Wars: Rebel Assault II for PS1 and PC, an action, rail shooter. Very ambitious, you fly ships and complete ground missions. 4) Shadowgate is a point and click game for NES and PC, it might not be your cup of tea but it's an interesting game and it would inspire commentary from you, and you could finish it in a single episode. It's something different.

I didn't know there were more titles in the "... de GO" series. Not sure how this fits either, but it looks pretty fun. I will definitely have to check it out myself sometime. Unfortunately it seems a bit pricey here in Europe for such a title (~50 bucks cib). Also glad to hear you recovered well from the plague. I came down with a migraine today so I appreciated to have something from you to watch, since your calm demeanor and deep voice are rather soothing. Not getting blasted with game audio was nice too.

The console that I love dearly, part of my sophomore years where I can enjoy games from its story, gameplay deepneess and other aspect I cant enjoy as a NES owner. Also this is the console where devs expertise get better along time graphically especially without any additional hardware. Look at the first Tenchu and the second one, or the more drastic the first Tekken to the third one. Its like magic

One minor note about the "de Go" series, Densha de Go was the first with the naming convention but the series in essence dates back all of the way to 1987 with Taito's Midnight Landing, a rather innovative arcade flight simulator with minimalist but effective graphics where the landscape is rendered entirely out of dots representing lights. This was followed in 1988 by a full 3D polygon graphics version, Top Landing, an arcade game that I loved to play as a teenager. (I never saw the original Midnight Landing in Montreal but there were a couple of Top Landing machines in the area.) Then the series became "Landing Gear" before finally becoming "Jet de Go".

Do either Sword of Vermilion or Thunder Force II or both. They were two of the games I got as a kid when I bought my Model 2 Sega Genesis (first console I ever bought with my paper route money) along with Sonic 1 and 2 (that came bundled with the console) and Mortal Kombat. I had never heard of Sword of Vermilion or any of the Thunder Force games but a Kaybee employee recommened them and I lucked out having enough money to get them...and I've loved them both ever since.

I love this game (does Taito ever fail?). It's truly a hidden gem. People thinking of RC games on PS1 think of Revolt or maybe RC Revenge, but it's rare that I hear someone talk about RC de Go. It's probably good, since the game remains cheapish. This is actually a really good translation of the arcade game.
