"It would be better with buttons" Guess what? This game is also on PC!

+SSGmaster Yes. very true. But derek doesn't review anything on PC (To my knowledge) . Even if the pc version is better than the console, or a mobile version.. If this was the PC version it would most likely be TJ doing the review.

This game is also currently available on Steam, where you *can* play it with buttons. For a mobile game that has both superb gameplay and a workable control scheme, you should really check out Auro: A Monster Bumping Adventure. Absolutely spectacular.

I bought this game on steam and I play it with an USB-Gamepad. Totally rocks! Worth every penny, I totally agree with Derek!

PS Vita version + Vertical Screen Filling Tate Mode + buttons (d pad and r button) = definitive handheld version. Wonderful!

The problem with most phone games is that they AREN'T like that. It's the mass glut of match 3 puzzle games, build a whatever, and ports of console games not usually optimized for phones. That and buttons. I personally like buttons. Touch screens are neat for menus but not as substitutes for buttons.
@Amalga_Heart9 жыл бұрын
+Monotonegent It's not really just that though. There ARE plenty of mobile games, as in, LOTS of them, that are like this. But the BIG games, like Angry Birds and such, combined with the inherant unholy level of awfulness of places like iOS's App Store (how the HELL are you supposed to REALLY find new stuff there?) means that.... you're never, ever going to hear about most of them, despite that there's veritable SWARMS of the things out there. Unless you already know where to look in advance. I dont get into the "usual' mobile game style much at all, as I tend to find them boring. I have MAYBE 8 of that sort of game on my iPad.... out of over 200+ other games (and no, I dont really like things like ports of other games either). I've found PLENTY of good stuff like this game. There's TONS of them. But the big guys gobble up all the space, and do everything they can to make sure you'll never, ever see the smaller ones. So it takes a huge amount of effort to find good stuff. Wheras, on consoles and such, you cant NOT notice the thigns that are good because they're basically shoved up your nose over and over by publishers, and they're never totally drowned out by stupid. As for the buttons, that one's entirely up to the individual. Some people need tactile feedback, others dont. I"m in the second category myself, I never even notice it to begin with, so the iPad may as well BE a controller for all I care. Of course, these days there's starting to be those controllers now that exist for mobile games, so that might be helpful for people if that catches on well enough. I dont think that aspect is quite there yet though, not enough games supporting it.

+Monotonegent I agree with you, and this is why I aim to fix this.

+CGRundertow I know you said that you don't usually review mobile games, but would you be up to reviewing a game called Mos Speedrun 2? It has the same charm as this (retro-platformer), but it unfortunately has garnered the attention it deserves. At the very least, I'm confident the person doing this review would really enjoy the game.

People hate mobile games because of microtransactions and stuff like that but I'm fine with the platform when they let you buy the whole game. My favorite mobile game is Pac Man CE DX.

the problem isnt simple mobile phone games on phones...its when they creep unto systems where the standard SHOULD be higher. Having this game appear on the Wii u and the fanboys saying that 3rd party issues are being addressed or having PC elites not realize that paying 56786567 k on that gaming rig to then cop this on steam for pennies is a cruel joke...Thats the real problem.

I only like mobile games if they are actual full-length games that could hold up on PC or console if ported over. I hate mobile games that are badly designed RTS, micro-transaction filled, pieces of shit (looking at you clash of clans and it's 5000 clones). However, downwell fits into the first category so hooray!

@kylele239 жыл бұрын
It's meant to resemble NES graphics, and there's even a Virtual Boy color palette that you can unlock. Say anything about the graphics as you want; but the game runs VERY smooth compared to most mobile games.
