My opinion - But anyone who didn't like Mario 2 (Doki Doki) and Zelda 2 were either expecting too much after the first games or just don't like creativity in games. Both hold up better than their first games and give the NES actual variety in sequels instead of just the same old (like Lost Levels).

Derek doesn't like SMB2 (US)? Well, people are allowed to be wrong. It's one of the best NES platformers there is! Also, Wario's Woods is weird, but it's a pretty good puzzle game once you figure it out.

Derek, I love you, but holy shit, Wario's Woods is not 'just a bad game'. I had a rough time when I first played it as a kid. The whole control scheme just felt very chaotic for no good reason, and I kept using the wrong moves by mistake. Once it clicks though, it really feels brilliant, especially the battle mode. The differences between picking up one block, one row, kicking blocks, or placing blocks below you all comes into play when you're trying to juggle all the junk player 2 sends your way. Add in the ability to walk up rows and grab blocks from the middle and you're pulling off some really slick moves. I personally don't think the match-3 puzzler formula has ever been quite so rich and rewarding as this gem. For your own sake, spend some time with this one, preferably on the SNES.

I've never played Zelda 2 and the challenges are very hard for me...but the only game I'd say that was "meh" in this collection would be Wario's Woods (not counting the Ice Hockey challenges in Remix II). I really like the style of SMB2.

I'm one of those people whose glad Mario Bros 2 came out so different. I think it's an amazing game just different. I'd choose it over the real mario bros 2 any day. The Lost Levels was just like buying an expansion. I'm glad it exists but it just feels like playing the first one.

Remember that this is also a Japanese released game also. Lost Levels is the true SMB2, and we don't know the extent of game popularity in Japan for your list of other "unpopular/bad" games.

I would love NES Remix if they actually included the full damn games. It's like when they included demos in Smash Brothers. You can play the games, but it's just a limited version.

I haven't played either tbh, but I always felt like NES Remix 1 had the weaker selection of games. Games which came much earlier in the lifespan of the NES and just aren't classics. The only games on there which I'd say hold up today are SMB, Zelda 1, Excitebike, Donkey Kong, and maaaybeee Balloon Fight. Even though, NES Remix 2 does have less games, I think they're almost all winners.

I never understood the hate for Super Mario 2. It's a great game that improved another great Japanese only game. I do get the hate for Zelda 2, though. While I can see why people like it, it's not a great game.

I like Mario 2, I don't mind Warios wood, though I agree it's not as accessible as usual Nintendo puzzle games, but yeah...screw Zelda 2. However, to be fair, I actually like he Zelda 2 challenges.

Well, at least you admit that liking Mario 2 and/or Zelda 2 is a subjective matter. While Mario 2 is slippery and Zelda 2 is clunky, I think they're still good games. I even find Wario's Woods to be fine, though its unintuitive puzzling translates horribly into the speedrunning-based setting here. Besides Wario's Woods and Dr. Mario, these games all have much to offer, even in this piece-by-piece format. NES Remix 1 had more games, but the only games in it that had both scrolling screens and truly different environments were Mario 1 and Zelda 1.

go for it, these aint the originals, they are mini challenges with a twist, anything you do in nes remix will not be found on an emulator apart from the graphics

I don't think you should let subjectivity influence you so much, I think you can objectively say Zelda 2 and Mario 2 were less popular. But they're by no means bad games compared to what was available at the time. They just both depart from what we're used to and everyone hates change.

I have the exact opposite opinion. I hated the first game solely because of the list of games, and the only reason I gave the second a chance was because of the vastly superior roster. I think Super Mario Bros and Zelda were the only games I even finished in the first one. The rest, while classics, have not aged very well. Especially Mario Bros. That game controls like absolute ass.
