1 thing i hate about many solar system setups is that anti-island thing, where if the power grid goes out, you don't have power either. Your whole solar setup disconnects so even though you have all this power, you can't use it. Has no one ever heard of relays? I'd create a huge heavy duty relay setup that if the grid power shut down, it would trip a sensor and flip the relays which would automatically disconnect my power setup completely so it doesn't back feed. This could be done with a simple micro controller. Then it would wait 15 minutes or so AFTER the grid came back up before flipping the relays and reconnecting to the grid. I'd double up the system for redundancy. Yes my power would flick off, but it'd come back on.. Then i'd get an alert on my phone or something saying the grid is down.. or i'd see it on the indoor solar control panel. If i'm going to invest that much in a solar setup.. i'd want to take full advantage of it.

We have a good system where the panels charge a battery, excess is used to heat our water, further excess is sold to the grid, if the panels don't give enough we run off the battery, if that's not enough we buy from the grid. Except some exposed got jogged around during installation of the batteries so now the RCDs go off every other rainy morning.
@LazyBunnyKiera4 жыл бұрын
@@jonomoth2581 But if the power goes out, do you still have power? Many electrical companies require that grid attached solar setups, even WITH batteries, need to shut down should the grid power go out, to protect the line workers.
@jonomoth25814 жыл бұрын
@@LazyBunnyKiera I just checked and we wouldn't have power, but the main point of the system was to reduce power bills and not independence. It would be a nice feature to have, I agree.

I like this commercially-made unit, better than the older, often State-allowed, proven SunMar units, because these are smaller, more easily maintained, & crucially, separate the urine from solid waste. But the bucket is smaller, & might need some help.... Have you tried adding worms to the poop bucket? Adding a bunch of the little wigglers found in the top several inches of the ground, can extend time between emptying, reduce mass & odor faster, & the worms break-down coliform bacteria (the germs in poop that health departments worry about). That said, one can easily make their own bucket potty with a separator for urine, from cheap & recycled parts. One excellent book, that describes 2 different, very effective ways to incorporate composting toilet systems, is in “Solviva” by Ana Eddy (sp.?).

Good luck getting the vortex/turbine permitted for use in the USA. Ever heard of the Dept. of Natural Resources? To alter even the slightest any waterway IE: river stream or creek is almost never allowed. Even on your own property. A stream, creek or river on your own property will have restrictions for livestock access, do you really think you would be able to alter it’s natural flow? Welcome to the modern world!
@kaywatson65052 жыл бұрын
Your about not being allowed in USA. It's a shame. The company that designs these are in Belgium and their low turbulence systems have in use in Chili, Australia and other countries. Powering entire villages in South America. No damage to waterways, environment or natural life makes one of the better utility makers.

Its laughable. That spec works out to 10 miles of range per day from those solar panels. Its not the battery tech thats the problem, its just a really stupid and wasteful design.
