I maintained these birds (Avionics) in Tustin from 1982-1989 and there's no better thrill than feeling the rotor wash from 30 feet to the side when the pilot goes forward cyclic.

HMH-461 CH-53D hydraulic mechanic 80 to 84. Beirut, Med cruise, sh!t loads of training flight, test skin qualified, and door gunner certified. If it doesn't leak it's not a 53. I truly got bless to be part of this birds history. . Bring it on china.

The Vertical Challenge is a small helicopter airshow at San Carlos Airport in June. Before the government sequestration, we used to get military helicopters show up for static display. This video was shot on Sunday when they left.
