Kampung Sitiawan is a tiny fishing village located at the Sitiawan River mouth in the state of Perak, Malaysia. Sitiawan itself is a town in the Manjung District of Perak, situated along the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia bordering the Straits of Malacca. Kampung Sitiawan is a small settlement adjacent to the main town of Sitiawan.
The modern history of Sitiawan began in the late 19th century when Chinese immigrants started to settle in the area. Many of these immigrants came from the southern Chinese province of Fujian, seeking better economic opportunities in the tin mining industry, which was booming in Perak at the time. These early Chinese settlers played a significant role in shaping the development of Sitiawan, establishing businesses, tin mines, and agricultural enterprises.
Today, this area is known for its fishing industry, as well as being a hub for agriculture, particularly in the cultivation of palm oil and rubber. Sitiawan also has a significant Chinese Foo Chow community, and the town is known for its delicious food, including fresh seafood dishes.
