Eh, I don't see them decapitating Grimlord. Though him dying and Shaider being adapted as his creations wanting to carrying out his work would be an interesting twist in the story.

Nope, in the VR Troopers case, Grimlord escaped. Ryan was able to rescue his father Tyler as well as J.B. and Kaitlin; however, he lost his Metalder powers in the process. Tyler comes up with new technology, and Ryan's Shaider powers are born.

Kind of weird that Neros uses black magic in the final battle. Isn’t he supposed to be a scientist?

It was likely because of the cut runtime. As such, they decided to have him use evil spirits.
