From my WW1 play, Remembrance: "Britain was the Knight Errant, stopping-up the invasion route of a thousand years of marauding armies through the cockpit of Europe - Belgium. Belgium must stay neutral - How right was Metternich! For, if Sarajevo was the spark - then Belgium was the powder keg if the Germans ever crossed the border. - How right he was again! If there was an Angel of Mons - which I doubt - well, she didn’t do her job properly. Britain should not have been there - it weren’t our fight. Or there already, as a deterrent to the Germans so they wouldn’t even try. But we were there - and too late. As I say - some Angel of Mons."
