I hadn't known the fact that Orthodox Jews are in Tokyo until I watched the video although I live in Tokyo. For me they are very exotic.

Giving food out to the homeless is part of Jewish charity without attempting to convert to Judaism. Tzedeka means righteous. This is what we call charity Although I’m not strictly religious, more observant I have a lot of time and respect for chabad. 🕎✡️❤️

do the non-japanese jews get to marry a native spouse, or is it forbidden?
@vlgeller9 жыл бұрын
They can but she needs to convert if they want to get married by synagoge. If not, they can a civil marriage I guess. But the guys of jabad are orthodox, I doubt they want to get a civil marriage...

+vidguy Chabad as an Orthodox Jewish group strongly discourages intermarriage, but they try to be welcoming to everyone as best as they can within the limits of Jewish law as they understand it. If a Jewish woman has children who are fathered by a non-Jewish man, such children will be accepted as Jews in Chabad congregations in accordance with Jewish law, but if it's the other way around (Jewish father, non-Jewish mother) the children will need to convert (or the mother will need to convert before the kids are born and if it's considered a valid conversion then the mother is Jewish and the kids are also Jewish). Even in cases where there is no conversion, but there are intermarried couples, they don't shoo the non-Jewish spouses away, they try to be friendly and sensitive, but at the same time they make it clear that if someone has a mother who's not Jewish then they are not deemed Jews and can't fully participate unless they go through conversion, and conversion is a very serious matter requiring years of study for them. But I know from experience that the non-Jewish spouses and partners of Jews are welcomed at Chabad, for the most part.

Are you the jewish jabad or the messianic sect that claimed Menahem Mendel their Messiah?
@guywhousesapseudonymonyout42728 жыл бұрын
+Vane Pretty much all of Chabad believes that the late Rebbe, Menachem Mendel Schneersohn, is the Moshiach, even though he's been dead for almost 22 years. Ther difference between the Meshichist" (Messianist) and "anti-Meschichist" factions is only in how they approach outsiders. The "anti" faction believes it's counterproductive to stress the belief that the Rebbe is the Messiah to outsiders and wants to just focus on general outreach to unaffilliated Jews or people who need their services. When and if someone becomes a fully integrated Chabadnik, they'll accept the idea that the Rebbe is Moshiach. The Meshishist faction believes in openly emphasizing that belief. It appears that the Tokyo Chabad emissary, Rabbi Edry, does belong to the Messianist faction. On a personal note, I have a complicated relationship with the idea. I admire the late Rebbe but don't believe he was/is the Messiah. When I was still a practicing, believing Orthodox Jew decades ago, I was shocked and disgusted by the idea that Chabad hassidim still could believe that he was a Messiah even after his death and considered it heretical and antithetical to Judaism, and a quasi-Christian notion, and I accepted the mainstream Orthodox Jewish belief that the Messiah can only be a living person. Since then, I have become non-religious and agnostic and I no longer believe in the Messiah, dead or laive. I view the whole concept of Messiah as superstitious nonsense, whether it is the Rebbe or anyone else. Nevertheless, at the same time, I still admire him as a human being and a great leader of the Jewish people. Moreover, I have a close relationship with my local Chabad rabbi and his family and I often attend his synagogue, despite the fact that I consider his beliefs a lot of nonsense, which I openly tell him. Not only that, despite the fact that I don't even believe in Orthodox Judaism at all, I will often look up the local Chabad emissary when traveling and visit the Chabad House to take advantage of their warm hospitality, the Shabbat atmosphere, etc. and I will donate to them as well. Maybe it's illogical to support a group that promotes beliefs that I consider backwards in many respects, but I think they do an amazing job of strengthening Jewish identity. I would prefer that other Jewish groups, religious and non-religious could learn from their example and the dedication of their emisarries

M Benyossef I have a double vision on Chabad, you know? I did go to study with them when was a kid, so I knew them (the ones that don't say Menahem is the messiah). For one side, they do an awesome job!! They help every jew who needs them with no doubt. Also, they go every where in the world to help the jews that have no synagogue or Torah to mantain their traditions. But by the other side, they have this vision that you are a bad person if you don't believe messiah will come soon. I mean, I felt awful when a morah said me "you will regret not putting candles on Fridays and all your unfaithful thoughts when he will come and say he didn't come sooner because of you". Then, there was that pression to do what they said without asking or they get mad, like "you must dress like this because we dress like this and that's it, you must not say a word". And, I mean, as a jew, you always must to ask a person; since a person is not god, a person can be wrong and can't say what god means in whatever part of the Torah as if his thought is the only correct in the world. That made me stop going with them. I was going to learn Torah, not to obey them. But this thing of the Rebbe being the messiah... Nah, I can't deal with it. That's idolatrous for me. Period. Jews don't believe in people, god is one, messiah is supposed a king that will bring peace and blah blah, and Rebbe was a good guy, but no. Menahem was a great human, don't get me wrong, I respect him. He made Judaism bigger and Chabad do a great job helping. But he is not the messiah, and the current wars are the proof. Why not believe in Yashua or Zabatai Avi too? What's the difference? They are creating a new religion bassed on Judaism... That's what I don't like. I still love how they help people, though, and I usually donate what I can to help. They trully do mitzvot. But I will never accept that messianic part of them... For me, that's a new religion, not Judaism. I also would like othr groups do the same and show what is Judaism without the messianism.
