I have a theory that cats sit with their front legs straight out flat on the ground like the Trafalgar Lions pose because they can pick up the vibrations of potential prey walking by and pinpoint their direction and distance. I realised this after watching a wildlife video shot in infra red where the narrator pointed out an injured antelope with a white hot patch on it’s rear which they said was a muscle injury and to their astonishment the lions in the dark singled out and jumped the injured antelope. They said the lions must have heard it limping but I think they felt it limping. It’s officially recognised that elephants communicate over long distances with infra sound through their legs. Anyway my point is I think lions know when their prey has died through the absence of a heartbeat.
