You didn't show the final product. What would be really cool is showing the result, no leaks and maybe a cut part of the pipe so we can see how it looks when the pros do it. Even if it looks ugly, if the job is done and will hold, that's the goal.

What becomes of the ties? They just break and become one with the pipe?

Yes, you are correct. As the packer inflates the ties pop but it doesn't change the end result.

Why not check distance and inflate at the same time.....save a step.....
