I was hiking way up high in Santa Rosa CA mountains about 1969 and drank water out of a fast running stream. On the way back i started to feel a little sick. (I was visited at a friend house at the age of 13). I do not remember much about the ordeal, but i got very sick an delirious and in bed for a couple days. (His dad was pharmacist by the way.) I do remember laying in bed and looking on the floor and seeing scorpions moving around.. The point being i never drank any running water again. Just watching this test makes me think,,, do i really want to try this far out on a long hike. I am sure it is safe but being as sick as i was, and totally out of my head for a few days i would not want to chance it ever again. But if i was to go way out by myself,, i would definitely want this as a back up.

Some of you are joking/complaining about that .01 percent that is potentially not filtered but let me tell you it’s a lot better than drinking the alternative. I don’t care what brand you choose, there are several on the market.. it’s just a good idea to have a water filtering device just in case, I wish they had been available back in the 90’s. My sister was 8 mos pregnant and always in very good health. She and hubby loved to go camping, hiking.. etc.. and decided to take one last trip before the baby came. They went to an area in Oregon (4 hrs away from home) that was known for its fresh water streams, companies like Arrowhead made claims of harvesting water from those streams so my sis had no hesitation in drinking from it. In hindsight it was a fluke situation but within just a few hours she became very ill. She went from being a very vibrant and healthy woman to laying in a hospital bed fighting for her life. Not only did she need to have an emergency c-section to save the baby but ended up wearing a colostomy bag for the next 2 yrs. Of course there’s a lot more to the story medically speaking but it would take me writing a novel to explain it all. We, her family were in a helpless panic as to whether she was going to survive, it was touch and go for awhile there.. not to mention that she was unable to have those first bonding moments with baby like most (new) mom’s do. When I say it was a fluke situation, it was discovered that there was a dead bear laying in the water upstream, I mean what were the odd? Was that what made my sister so sick, we’re not completely sure but probably likely. There were parasites in her bloodstream as well. Times were different and we didn’t know as much as we do now. My sis and nephew are doing very well today and a couple of repair surgeries later, my sis didn’t need the aid of a colostomy bag anymore.. she got lucky! They had two more kids since then and they still like to go camping as a family. She’d prefer that none of her family (or ANYONE!) drank from a stream or the like but she always comes prepared with her water filtering devices, probably more than is needed. LoL I’ll admit, the one thing I do appreciate about the Lifestraw company is that they give a straw for each one that is bought to ppl who need it more on a daily basis. I’m sure those ppl are not concerned about that .01 percent, they are grateful to have nearly perfect drinking water instead of not having a choice. Be safe out there peeps.. not sorry. 😊

Great demo, you can use it in a pinch, but the Sawyer mini or the Sawyer 1.0 filter is better and provides up to 100,000 gallons of filtered water,also when collecting water even filter water, you are supposed to look for already clear looking water and ideally up stream and Fast flowing or water that has Fish (Alive Fish 0 Toxic chemicals usually) ..always avoid any stagnant water 👍
@ChadZuberAdventures Жыл бұрын
Thanks. This was a demonstration of the filtering capabilities of this filter. I don't usually drink from super muddy stagnant pools. I still use the LifeStraw filter from time to time. Never used any other filter.

@larrybud2 жыл бұрын
Just note that the number of "9s" in the decimal of the filtration effectiveness is REALLYY important. Their website says three 9s for parasites ("three nines" means 99.999%, or three nines after the decimal). For bacteria it's six 9s. 99.999999%. It "sounds" like it's twice as effective, but the difference between the to is 1000 : 1
