I don’t think DDP was scared at all. He just knocked out Whittaker, but suffered an injury. The way UFC & Dana usually run business is to rush to the next title fight for their favourite fighters to build them up, in that case it was Adesanya that the UFC was putting their money on. DDP wasn’t going to play that game and get pushed into a short turn around fight against a high level opponent like Adesanya.

Strickland successfully capitalized on an opportunity that DD chose to pass up...within same timeframe. SS chose to "play that game" and whipped Izzy's ass BAD. This makes DD look like a putz, rather exposes him. UFC decides who fights who, not the fighters. So, because DD needed more time to prepare (unlike SS) he had to chickenout and missed an opportunity most fighters never get..kinda stupid.

@@Michael-jb3ie lol Sean had a few more weeks to rest up and recover from his last fight than Dricus did and a few weeks to let your body recover after a long training camp can’t be underestimated.Not to mention it would be absolute stupidity for Dricus after winning a fight that guaranteed him a title shot to take it on short notice especially with a bum ankle.The fighters don’t make the fights but the ufc can’t deny someone who has earned the right for a championship fight and have adequate time to recover and go into another training camp without them losing credibility.Dana was left scrambling for a replacement and Sean took it because he was ready to go and he got to leap the top in the division to get it. Sean had a great performance against Izzy,his style posed a problem for Izzy that he’d never seen.Fact is though when Sean exposed Izzy’s creepiness in that press conference he already beat him.That’s why when the final bell rung Izzy was immediately worried about Sean roasting him some more and is why Izzy has stepped away for a while to let that talk die down.It’s the same reason Ian dropped out,he didn’t want to be roasted.I don’t like Izzy but we’ve all saw him fight and while Sean’s style posed him a problem we’ve never saw Izzy more reluctant to fight.

Personally, I've become a big fan of DDP over the last year. I think the way he has handled guys like Izzy and Sean have been perfect, a good balance of trying to keep it respectful, but also not backing down at all and being willing to take it wherever they want to. Aside from that, he is a great fighter, he works really hard, he is exciting and leaves it all in the cage. I think he has the potential to become a really big star if he keeps winning

DDP was and is definitely NOT scared of IZZY. His team made an executive decision for DDP to be physically close to 100% when he gets a shot at the belt.
