The trick is learning how to maximize results with as less wear and tear on your body as you can get. There is such a thing as training fatigue. As the old saying goes, sometimes less is more. Don't train so hard that by the time the fight rolls around your body is just burnt out.

I am glad the fight wasn't stopped. Kattar was throwing bombs even though they didn't land often and he wasn't knocked down in the 5th. It would take away his chance at an all time highlight even though that chance in the 5th might have been slim.
@alexandrefalardeau6783 жыл бұрын
Yeah..Surprising that Jon Anik claimed that this would be fight of the year..The number thing a fight should have too be considered FOTY is some back and forth..None of that in this fight. Max Holloway is on another level, just an incredible performance.

Fight of the Year, so far, is the co-main between Matt Brown and Carlos Condit, despite the fact that the judges might have been "watching" it with their eyes closed. Kattar is likely to be, far and away, strike sponge of the year. I worry that he might have left something in that cage.

While Max certainly gave one of the best performances of his career... to suggest there was nothing Kattar could have done differently to improve his chances is flat-out nonsensical.
@Andrei-oj1jz3 жыл бұрын
So what exactly did you want Kattar to do to improve? He swung his best punches and couldn't put down Holloway. Once Kattar was getting pummelled next to the fence, he still kept swinging in the air to catch Holloway. It's his 27th pro fight so he's been around the block.
@Daddydaft3 жыл бұрын
Disagree. Kattar is a counter puncher and was rarely landing and when he was, it wasn’t slowing Max down at all. Max just kept coming forward. What would you say he could’ve done differently? Try to take the fight to the ground? Not a chance. Kattar is an incredible fighter but Max had him in a check mate tonight. He was just on another level and the far better fighter. No shame in that.

I think Max elevated himself heavily since the Dustin loss, i think he has patched the few holes in his game he previously had. The level of overall striking Max Holloway just displayed is incredible. volume punches, elbows, knees, kicks of all kinds; most notably spinning back kicks and head kicks. I don't see any man on the planet beating max at 145 at the moment.

Everybody watching that fight came away with at least these 2 thoughts: Max Holloway is incredible and Katter is as physically and mentally tough as they come. As for no sparring, Bisping after giving Rockhold a beating said it was the easiest fight of his life and he later said having no training camp he had never felt so fresh and unhurt going into a fight before, which makes you think how hurt must he have been going into other fights, given he went into this one clinically blind. Fighters always seem to be going into fights damaged, or worse cancelling the fight . Maybe if you're experienced enough and confident enough in your own abilities it's best to do just something low impact that gets your VO2 max up like swimming, instead of a camp.

*Draftkings sets new scores system* Max: ima set the high score
@chriswilson19683 жыл бұрын
Kattar has things to fix, his lack of head movement for one. His defense was lacking, he was there all day to be hit. The numbers reflect that, although Maxs volume is a big reason for that also. He didnt let his hands go enough he was waiting a little too much just letting Max get comfortable and stay in rhythm. Kattar definitely has some things to work on. Hes got a great 1,2 and a nice uppercut but it takes more than that in the top 5. Hes obviously super tough with a lot of heart but he needs to add depth and volume to his game. Max looked like a monster, he should get the next title shot after that performance.

Kattar’s soul got snatched... he’ll never be the same again..
@chriswilson19683 жыл бұрын
@Xion Collins He needed to combine head movement and footwork. Not just stand there like a manikin eating it all. He let Max control the range and the pace. He also didn't make any real adjustments mid fight. Hes got a lot of work to do. Chael was way off in saying he has nothing to fix lol

@@dfgg8894 That might be the most ignorant comment I've ever read 😂 For one I dont eat fast food, second its called an opinion. Thats why these channels and videos exist, to discuss the fights and our opinions on them. I dont need to be a UFC fighter to give my opinion, just like I dont need to be a Hollywood actor to have an opinion about a movie. And when did I say it was simple? You're just putting words in my mouth lol Got anything else stupid to add kid?

The next fight to make is Darren Elkins versus Calvin Kattar. Whoever dies first wins.

There’s nothing Kattar needs to fix? How about exiting pressure in a straight line and shelling up rather than counter to try to back max off? The way Kattar fought was exactly what not to do against a rhythm/pressure fighter like max
@PabloPhreshcobar3 жыл бұрын
Yeah the few times he countered or swung with max he was pretty successful and caught him good a decent amount of times. Should've stuck with that, probably why his corner was telling him to fight angry

When max went past striking and became defeat itself. Still stressed out from watching that. Amazing.

Max looked like Izzy in there. The variety the constant motion. Even if Kattar got a shot in he payed for it instantly
@rjohnson9933 жыл бұрын
I said that around round 2 or three. I said, look at the knees, elbows, kicks... He looks like Izzy. He did that stuff before but not as much. It was noticeable--good catch.

I don't think it's possible to beat that performance, the level of output and the pressure just can't be matched from any high level fight I can see.

Oliveira is the only interesting fight because he's the only one who won't be utterly helpless when Khabib inevitably gets a takedown.

Felt like the entire fight Calvin was scared to pressure. He barely ever entered the pocket or threw his jab first which he usually leans heavily on. It’s like he was planning on just counter punching but wasn’t quick enough.

This is an accurate take, Chael. Going back to your video the other day about only one fighter gets a title shot- can you still say that Max is still not going to get that chance? That video may have been a little premature.
@blacknap0le0n563 жыл бұрын
I disagree w Chael on two things... 1) Kattar could have done many things better. One being in the first two rounds when Kattar threw first he landed. He just rarely threw first n got pieced up. 2) Colby Covington literally survives off of little more than his pace of wrestling, but also striking to, and I would say he weaponizes pace more than Max does. Max's output of strikes is weaponized but there is a difference between striking a lot and physically pushing another fighter all around the cage non-stop. Pace is not striking rate.
