Curious gal UHF user here. Peanut at the car wash broke my stick, trying to remove the Whip. Looked for hours for a schematic of my GME antenna finally came along this video. Watched it, went out immediately, found the problem; coax wire broken to below the sheath. Did a quick fix, UHF back working as good as ever. Waiting for my partner (electrician) to come home so he can do all the handy work

Absolutely fantastic Steven! Thank you. Just back from a big trip. Washed the car and the cable came out of the antenna. I thought You Tube can help me fix this. You’re a life saver. Even better, your antenna is EXACTLY the same as mine. Thank you.

Finally! Great to see what’s inside these infamous Ozzie elevated feed uhf antennas, looks to be a proper folded back sleeve balun dipole, Thanks for this, truly invaluable! If anyone knows the insides of the classic gme ae4005/ oricom anu050 I would be very interested to see one cut open

Love it. Thanks for sharing. I just bought a second hand car with the same antenna. UHF has some annoying feedback noise and I wasn’t sure if it was the head unit or antenna. The inner section of the antenna connector looked ‘chipped’ and I wondered if it was broken. After watching your video I realise it is fine, the inner connector is cut on an angle and the inner coax is soldered in place. Awesome education. Thanks again. For me, I think I need a new head unit

Thanks for a wonderful detailed video. In addition, Compared to TNC/ N type connectors, UHF connectors may be wide range.and if somebody wants to try connectors from CHina, i think elecbee is a nice choice.and there are IC products too.why not have a try? thanks.

When ya solder, heat it constantly dont let it cool/heat so many times . Leads to bad joints.

Hi Steven, Just thinking about ROOT CAUSE of the problem with our GME two stage antenna. That the regular REMOVING and REPLACING of the detachable piece is placing a stress concentrator on the soldered joint? That is why the inner coax breaks off at the solder? Thank you. Jeff.

How long did it take to melt the solder from the nut? Spent a while on it but doesn't seem to be budging
@chaggolies3 жыл бұрын
I don’t remember it taking too long

Would take ages if I used my 30W (small) soldering iron...I held the end in a gas flame (kitchen stove) and pushed through from the back with a thin piece of wire e.g. paperclip once it got hot enough.
