Beautiful video, I am in second year of Mechanical engineering and I've been struggling with fully understanding how the chain rule worked since high school (although i knew how to get answers just be differentiating the outside x the differentiating the inside). technically y=x² can still have the chain rule applied to it it's just that u here is x², and so is u¹, so deriving it would be 1×u⁰=1, leaving us with just 1× du/dx which is 2x
