This game looks absolutely gorgeous. I was getting really hyped for this one. I actually had someone call me out on getting super hyped for a game based off of 20 year old ideas and graphics, and alls I can say is clearly 20 year old ideas and graphics are still really damn good and can make for an excellent game! So glad it's reviewing well. I'm beyond excited to be picking this one up

Incredible quality of workmanship. This indie project, made alone, is in no way inferior to major projects, also paying tribute and not yielding to high-quality cult jrpg - chrono trigger, xeno gear. The game is incredible. It's a pity that there is no localization into a language convenient for me, but still the game gave me a lot of impressions and pleasure.

So far an absolute amazing game that is a clear love letter to classic jrpgs from snes and ps one era. It is definitely inspired by games of old but adds its own mechanics that honestly make it better in my opinion.

Having actually gotten Chained Echoes - I have to admit, I was having so much fun up until the mechs. I don't mind the Sky Armours in combat but the mechs on the maps just feel a little off and not to my taste but they're a required mechanic for exploration. Just found myself not playing the game as much since I received the Sky Armours.

"Think of these old games as you remember them.. not as they actually *were*". This is the biggest idea that separates the truly great old-school throwbacks from the mediocre ones. The ones that tried too hard to play by the old-school textbook didn't go over well but the ones that only took the good aspects and built on top of them are special.

Please give me some examples as it is hard to wade through sometimes. Off the top of my head I feel like Triangle Strategy would be a good example: as in, taking the backbone and aesthetics and bringing them into the 21st century with all the improvement and quality of life updates that entails.

Yours has been the most comprehensive, avoids spoilers (one review listed every single homage to ffvi it makes-would have preferred discovering them myself!). I'm trying to play as much of Dragon Quest 11 before it leaves Game Pass. There are so many games to play. Witcher 3 gets a big update soon and I've never played the highly rated DLC; Cyberpunk is 50% off and I want to play it; plus I play quite a bit of Halo (the forge update is incredible). This game reminds me of Octopath Traveler. I played it for 5 hours or so when it first released and loved it. Which game do you guys think is superior Octopath Traveler or Chained Echoes? I think its a good comparison and I don't think I'll be able to play both.

This looks amazing and I'm definitely gonna check it out. I do want to point out that you said in your review that it could use some facial animations etc. I agree but from what I've seen I'd also be happy with at least one black character! I hate bringing this point up but as I watched this I noticed all those really neat looking designs, also other species etc. But come on with all that variaty color shouldn't be that hard to include.. I hope I just missed it but it doesn't look like it..

This is not a game that should be overlooked. It basically is a loved child from FFVI, Xenogears, and Chrono Trigger combined. Everything about it enjoyable. I have no complaints. Gorgeous pixel art to the point it may be some of the best ever. Fantastic soundtrack. Very likeable characters. Good villains. Solid story. Fun combat tho you may want to tweak the difficulty settings to balance them the way you like. I found normal for enemy stats mad the regular field enemies take way too long to beat so I got low stats normal aggression and that works out well for those of us who don;t need games to be the hardest they can possibly be. lol Btw, I prefer this style of difficulty settings to the regular easy, normal, hard setup. I'd rather just scale certain things up or down. This is something AAA games should consider. This is a 10/10 game for me and I never give out 10s on a personal level. I always at least find something that annoys but this game is just a wonderful love letter to old school JRPGs. I think it would have stood toe to toe vs FFVI or Chrono Trigger if it came out during the same era honestly.

Honestly, doing side quests and beating unique bosses wi help you get stronger. Also don't sleep on the agility stats. More turns can make all the difference.

Sometimes I wonder how this magic cant be captured by Squeenix + Tokyo RPG Factory. They seems so close yet so far and cant quite reach this level even after several tries.

I feel like company that could do a FF or Chronotrigger caliber JRPG is Treasure; at least I think it is them, they develop the YS games, specifically talking about YSVll: Dana of Lacrimosa & YSX. The really solid story writing and character development, the tightness of their mechanics and control of characters (seem less switching in real time action combat) think 3d Zelda, but way better with verticality, perfect dodges/guards that give bullet time.
