Most places which offer small engine equipment repair will offer a chain sharpening service. It generally only costs a few bucks per chain, and if done right, they will cut like brand new when done. I have had decent results filing the chains by hand with a file and angle guide.

I’ve seen a corded electric chainsaw eons ago used at a Christmas tree farm to trim the tree trunks. For something like that, a corded one would come in handy. Other than that, it seems like it would take an extremely long extension cord or a portable generator to use in a lot of cases. The other gas powered ones would come in handy for cutting lots of firewood. I have a 20 volt small Black And Decker chainsaw with about an 8 inch bar. I still use it sometimes. If I cut any branch like under an inch thick, it will slap it around more than cut it! I like your son’s“toy” saw, Lol!

Yes. The corded in one will get light or pruning duty and as you mentioned you have to bring out the 100 foot ext cord or more depending on what you are doing. When I first bought the house and had basically nothing that was my only option and I would trot out the ext cord for the day with my saw. LOL

@ You would about need a portable generator if you went farther than that. By the way, the first chainsaw was actually a corded electric one. My dad borrowed it to cut some kind of timber to build a fence in the yard. The noise of it scared me at the time!

@@Sammy2012ify Wait until you see my Christmas light videos. I have enough outdoor ext cords to run to the moon and back. LOL

@ I can’t wait to see your Christmas light video. You wouldn’t have been able to operate your corded chainsaw without those long cords other than a generator. So, the logic is manifested!
