Chainsaw Man Is A Work Of Art (Honest Review)

In This Video, I will give my honest review of the anime Chainsawman. My content is satire in nature and while it may sound like I disliked the anime it's mostly bad jokes. I will be talking about what makes it one of the most popular anime of the season ... by insulting everything about it. Season 1 of this anime was released on Oct 12, 2022. This anime recently concluded and has yet to be renewed for another season. I have no doubt that it will get one though. There is a manga that you can read that I highly recommend. This video contains light spoilers so be aware if you plan on watching the anime or reading the li manga. This anime is currently available in the English dub.

Chainsaw-man is great because mangaka is such a goat at writing deep stories with absurd plots. He'll definitely make it big in future as one of the goats. I have high hopes for him.

The best thing I can say about Chainsaw Man is this does not feel like a Shonen. In the second half of the season they have a training arc with a seasoned veteran member, what would take 10 episodes in any other Shonen takes 1.5 episodes here. Basically this is Shonen in name only and by any other name it's just one of the best anime ever.

@@budthecyborg4575 no, you people are the problem actually (not you personally i am talking about fans in general including me) and only put animes and manga with similar design and structure as a 'shonen' series. Infact you people even made 'to do' list for how shounen should be. that's why shounen is bad. All of the names you give here can be shounen as well if it is published in shounen magazine. ofcourse something like berserk will never be published in shounen but let me tell you something like 20th century boy can published in a shounen magazine. the only reason urasawa doesn't do that even though he is one of the biggest name in japan and manga industry because he likes to go in his pace and not forced into a week schedule. A good example for people's bias is Attack on titan, it is shounen but people like to call it seinen even though it is published in a shounen magazine.

@@HerMi.T As an artistic genre I think of Shonen primarily as a coming of age story, it's easy to draw that line between something like Ghost in the Shell and Attack on Titan, which actually still fits the bill for Shonen under that definition. Most Isekai could probably still fall into the Shonen genre but they've developed a primary modifier to distinguish from generic Shonen. Strictly speaking Chainsaw Man still fits the Shonen genre, it just avoids the most often repeated boring parts.

And yeah Chainsaw was the one anime that was popping off like crazy in everyone's heads in 2022, Though I'm switching to the manga cos I am not a fan of how MAPPA animates the story most of the time. Denji-kun is a rare refreshing protagonist done right who I could hang-out with.

for me, the most interesting part about Chainsaw Man is this concept of devils being empowered by fear... because it means that the world has to operate on a totally different level. think about a situation like Denji's poverty. when people are forced to live that way, they have reason to be afraid of everything. what if he gets sick and can't afford a doctor, or medicine? what if he can't afford food and starves to death? what if someone attacks him, or steals from him? as a child with no one looking out for him, he has less protections, and is an easier target. and getting beat up or stabbed brings back that very same medical anxiety. and when you think of a world where devils can actually hurt people... it feels like poverty is a problem that governments would have an interest in trying to actually solve. a poor person's struggles aren't just theirs anymore. not when their fear contributes to a destructive entity that can terrorize people. so then... what's really going on here? I mean, Denji's circumstances aren't that unique. Kobeni states that she chose to pursue devil hunting because her family is poor, and she feels like she has no choice. to Kobeni, poverty is even scarier than doing this job... and we've seen how much it scares her. in fact, because Kobeni actually does have some pretty legitimate skills, she is able to survive a crisis at work while everyone around her dies. this job is repeatedly traumatizing her. and if we're being honest, Himeno is the same way. she's lost partner after partner... she expects new recruits to die. she wants to get out of this job, but the only thing that scares her more than staying, is leaving and being unable to protect Aki. the truth is that fear creates desperation, and desperation can be used as a tool for manipulation. people will do all sorts of things to avoid what they fear. but fear is also a basic component of love. Kobeni loves her family, Himeno loves Aki, Power loves Meowy, it scares them to think that something bad might happen to the ones they love. it's why the yakuza still use intimidation tactics to justify their existence... it's why Makima presents them with a bag of their loved ones' eyes. fear is a tool. and actually... even devils feel it. for devils, the consequence of not being feared enough is weakness. and humans hunt devils because of financial incentives, so a weak devil is an easy mark. devils can literally die if people don't fear them enough... it's their version of poverty. and they protect themselves by terrorizing people, in order to become stronger. but this also means that devils themselves are manipulable by means of intimidation. and what about Denji's position in all of this?

After finishing the video. I can say that all the aspects you like about CSM are the aspects I dislike. The characters feel very 2D with great concepts, their depth is good, but their execution isn't that great imo. The dialogues and progression feel stiff at times with characters just saying shit that feels like it forcing something. The flashbacks are super bad, they feel very unnatural and feel like I'm being forced to care about the characters instead of making me care in the present. I still think it's enjoyable, but I cant fathom it as the work of art that everyone claims it to be which just dampens my enjoyment of it even more. Ultimately, we all have our own opinions about it and this is just mine. Ik im in the minority, but I just don't think it's all that good ESPECIALLY the anime. Not even the best anime this season imo, Bleach, Mob and Bocchi being better. Still a fun and well made video tho ! Really enjoyed it aside from all the gushing about CSM (which mostly just comes from me disagreeing with it) Also, have a wonderful New Years Lunar, thanks for all the content you put out ❤️

Its weird I like kinda agree & kinda don't. Like with the execution I do think they did a great job and that Chainsaw Man is a really fun time. Most things they did were good to great so imo I would say it is great & deserves its spot among the top shows of the season but I agree that there were definitely others this season alone that I would say were better. I think Mob I would put s3 around same level of enjoyment but Bleach & Bocchi for me were better

Like the overuse of flashbacks at times, the characters just saying random stuff out loud that convey some form of progression, etc. I definitely think CSM does way too much of that, it makes me care less for the characters. The only character who's concept and execution I love is Aki. He's the only well written character in CSM for me tbh

And then you have the horrible CD fight scenes, that are just a hard to follow mess, with Denji going full cringe.
