Zhanguo Review - Chairman of the Board

Madeira, Nippon and Zhanguo are the holy trinity. Absolutely fantastic games. Interested to see how you get on with Maderia. By far my favourite and the most complex of the three, but it's soooo unique. Shout out to Signorie and Railroad revolution too, which are great too.

I agree all are great. For me : Madeira > Zhanguo > Nippon

Wow. I just played Zhanguo: The First Empire, and man! This game is a straight 10/10 for me. I’m so impressed. Played it solo once only. Can’t wait to play it multiplayer. What a surprise this was. In the midst of so many new games coming out every year, this reprint of an 2014 game is just a gem. How glad I am that I found it. The solo play is great!

all you said is true. Today I played my first game, and it was rough. I didn't place the cards in the right regions to match the temple bonuses, I overlooked the region scoring conditions, and the cards I tucked were useless... Still managed to get 80 points, which was 70 lower than other two players. So frustrating... The biggest problem for me was that I couldn't memorize prices for card actions, and visually those area scoring conditions were a bit aside so it wasn't in my sight what I need to do where. But, I don't like Nippon either, so it's a skip for me. PS we played new edition by Sorry we are French, and it's very well done 👍👍

“What’s your game” had a great run with good games .. signorie, nippon, Madeira Have you played any of these?

I've also played all 5 of these What's Your Games. They're all euros with something unique and somehow, none truly bad but none near my top 50. I've played most of them 2x and amongst them, only Signorie made me wanna go back and play again. Believe they're all out of print so it's not so easy to get hold of any of them as easily now. Would like to know after Chairman tries them all which of these he likes more and why. Love how he critiques them games. Seems to me, he's trying to get hold of all of them to at least try them all out. My personal rank goes Signorie > Zhanguo > Madeira > Nippon > Raidroad Revolution

I've made some prototypes. I don't currently have the time to invest in making something I'm happy with. I'm sure one day I'll get something printed.

But when your idea is actually something good that works after several playtests (not made by firends/familty) - then less than giving everything you can in order to make it published and invest yourself all-in into it - definitly won't be enough. Maybe some day... In the midtime, your'e doing quite an excellenet job as a reviewer...
