Great review, I have considered this game in the past, but was on the fence about the bidding aspect of the game. Thanks, your explanation made sense and now I can see its much less ambiguous than it seemed before. Viceroy is now back on the wishlist!

I always thought you'd enjoy this one. Try space explorers from the same designer, an engine building like splendor but with a lot of meat, I rank it in my top 20.

Funny to see this one come along :D This is actually my first boardgame KS ever ... and I hauled it around for a year before I got it played :p But I find it's a clever game, and it's still a bit of an unique game after all these years. I hunted down the expansion a while ago but it's one that is difficult to get to the table. I'll probably never sell it though :)

I agree with you. Viceroy is excellent. It might be the quitenesstial hidden gem. A crying shame it didn't even get a spiel des jahres mention.

If you had to buy Viceroy or Res Arcana, which would you buy?

That's tough as both are great! I think I'd narrowly choose Viceroy.

Finally played this last night. 4 player game. We struggled a bit with the rulebook and had to start over once but we figured it out on the second try and it was great! Really fun. I was a little surprised at how tight the scoring is. I thought we'd have much higher scores but still really fun
