Chakma, Hajong refugees in Arunachal to be settled in Assam: Kiren Rijiju

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju sparked controversy by saying that the Chakma Hajong refugees would be relocated outside the frontier state before being granted Indian citizenship under the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) 2019.
The Union Minister said that over 67,000 members of the Hajong and Chakma communities who are currently residents of Arunachal Pradesh will be relocated to Assam.
Rijiju who was in the presence of Arunachal Home Minister Bamang Felix and BJP MLA from Itanagar, Techi Kacho was quoted saying, “They are staying here as guests. They are not entitled to get a permanent resident certificate (PRC) of citizenship here.”
He also added that the Chief Minister of Assam Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma, in consultation with Arunachal Pradesh, has made it clear that Chakma-Hajongs should be settled in Assam.
Rijiju’s statement drew condemnation from several corners, especially from organisations leading the anti-CAA movement. Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad President Palash Changmai took to social media platforms to raise his opposition and demanded the implementation of the Inner Line Permit in Assam.
"The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad opposes the move and by no means, we will accept what he (Kiren Rijiju) said. Instead, we demand that the Inner Line Permit should be implemented in Assam. We have been saying this for the past 45 years had the Inner Line Permit been in place in Assam, the people of Assam would have been as safe as the indigenous people of Arunachal," Changmai said.
Meanwhile, Assam CM Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma who is in Nagaon to campaign for the BJP for the Lok Sabha polls claimed that the central government has not discussed anything over the relocation of Chakma and Hajong refuges in Assam.
"I don't know what Rijiju has said, but the government of India has not discussed these matters with us. Rijiju might have perhaps said something in view of the political situation in Arunachal Pradesh," Sarma said.
"No one from Chakma or Hajong communities has met me nor has the government of India discussed it with me. I will speak with Rijiju about the matter after the elections," Sarma further added.

Sir Kiren Rijiju you are not only a minister of Arunachal you are Central minister as well as incharge of North east region Please look at Tripura demographic section en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tripura It shows Tripuris population was 62 % in 1941 but in 2011 it came down to 31% due to a lot of Bangladeshi immigrants and refugees who took all political rights of Tripura The 62% Tripuri population in 1941 was also incorrect because a lot of tribals who stayed in hill areas were missed out in counting census where as non tribals stays in Urban areas So its a request from Tripura people please raise this matter in parliament 🙏

Chakma hajong are constitutionally recognized Tribal / Scheduled Tribe of India - it is misleading figure about total population of chakma hajong. If chakma hajong people can be relocated in Assam- then why not in Arunachal pradesh who are already legally settled there before the birth of Arunachal pradesh under a definite plan of rehabilitation by the then union Government of India - CAA 2019 was inverted under 6B of citizenship Act 1955, whereas chakma hajong are citizen of India since immemorial time of Undivided India - and by virture of various judgements of High Court & Supreme Court under section 5 (1) (a) & section 3 (1) of citizenship axt 1955. No doubt Arunachal pradesh is 100 percent Tribal state but chakma hajong are also 100 percent tribal which is why these people were settlted by the then union Government of India. Furthermore, by branding chakma hajong as refugees /foreigner is completely unconstitutional and this kind of statement also attracts contempt of court. - no one is above the law of the land.
