Chal-khal Nirman | Conserve water | Pahaadi Society | Laluri

Pahaadi Society and the village children fixed a lake in village Dobh-Laluri. The water in the monsoon runs off the surface and does not seep into the ground, due to which the springs get weak. So we took the initiative by digging small pits and fixing the old lakes to conserve the rain water.
The lake was not holding water before, but now after few rains there is more than 2 feet deep water in the lake.

How does a "chal_khal" work?

making a lake collect the rain water and if you make the water percolate slowly through the bottom, it recharges your springs under it and this way you can maintain the flow of spring throughout the year. For deep knowledge you can google

Actually I looked it up and asked some people... The technical term is Slope brake, Chal is through rain water harvesting mainly for cattle, and to limit wild animals outside the village when they are thirsty. Khal is a larger Chal... Anyways thanks for the reply!
