I have never heard that tea houses, coffee shops, hans or other catering objects were called "chalgia". It means music, music playing, music session, musician (c,algaci) etc. It was characteristically for the southern Balkan region as urban (city) music in the late 18th, 19th and beginning of the 20th century. It is strongly influenced by the Turkish and middle-eastern music, since it was one empire in that time. After WW1 not so much popular but still exists in Macedonia. :-)

@RENEDU2 The kannun was brought to Macedonia in the late 1300's - early 1400's by the Turks when they invaded the Balkans :)

persians?!!! :D :D :D :D Don't you know anything about the history, or have you ever heard the word 'history' ? the name of this music is CHALGIA. this word is derived from its turkish origin. ÇALGI means MUSICAL INSTRUMENT in Turkish language not in Persian. An What sort of a relationship between Balkanic Slavs and Turks.
