Ds2 is a real treat for anyone that loves souls games. Every weapon is useful throughout, more interactive environments than any other in the series, and every action you take truly matters. Honestly, my favorite of the series despite the hate it gets for being a bit slow and very different from the rest.

I thought I'd info dump some basic mechanic stuff at you. Sorry if it's unrequited... Bonfire Ascetic: you can kill enemies 12 times & then they will no longer spawn. If you burn one of these at a bonfire, the enemies will come back. But all the enemies in the bonfire area will now be new game +1 level. After 12 more times killing them you'll have to burn another, then they will be NG+2 level. This can be handy for farming. But it's super useful for bosses. NG+ bosses not only drop more souls, but the often drop the best rings in the game. Power Stancing: To properly dual weld in this game you need two weapons of the same damage type, slash, thrust, strike. Then you need to have 1.5x the stat requirements. Eg. Strength 10 is required for the weapon. You would need strength 15 to power stance with two of them. Then you need to hold down the Y button to enter power stance mode. It does some really nice damage & has some good move sets. Item discovery: certain clothes, rings & items will boost your item discovery & you'll get a lot more drops from enemies. Human Effigy: I tended to use these to restore health before a boss battle. But becoming human again also allows you to see NPC summons & player summons. Some NPCs require you to summon them to progress their stories.

you forgot the champions covenant and how it stops enemies from despawning while also respawning everything that was already despawned.

Seeing you react to Majula in such an emotional manner sent me back to my first time with this game. "I get it now" It really is a beautiful moment, isn't it? DS II is not without its flaws, but what it does well, no other Souls game ever did again. edit: About the versions, i think progression is easier in OG for first timers, but the better graphics, performance and QoL additions to SotFS make it too big a plus for most people.

I know DS2 is the black sheep, but I don't see how DS1 is better tbh. I'd rather argue the opposite, even if Crown of the Ivory King felt a bit rushed. The main game and the other 2 DLCs are quite solid. DS2 is obviously harder than DS1, the HP debuff and the way Estus heals you are kinda brutal. There are ways to counteract both of them though. If anything, DeS should be the black sheep.

It may not be the best in the soulsborne series but dammit it has heart. It also has the best varrying cosmetics and playstyles in the series to date even more than er imo, also the pvp was very fun if you can find players which is almost non existant outside japan. It was also my first souls experience so it will always have a special place in my heart, also majula theme and hub hasn't been topped and imo never will.

"Ha I'm not going to parry." Lmao well that's a choice. Let's see if a certain someone can change your mind. Heeheehee That spot by the tree in the forest is where an infamous clip of someone horrible at Dark Souls ran around aggroing every enemy, then got knocked off the ladder, died to gank of all the aggro catching up, and complained how unfair it was. This area is supposed to teach you that proximity to enemies will draw aggro. What the game wants you to do is take it slow and backstab all of them as they get up. Or learn crowd control and social distancing. Good training ground. If you go back from where you come enemies will stop chasing you but if you continue forwards they will chase you and it will end in a gank. You can often strafe around the big slow enemies *without* rolling. Makes it much easier to hit. I love the Emerald Herald. Keep an eye out for a rare animation she can do. Its cute. I hope you do a loreplay on her some day. Also Lenigrast is great. Gruff fatherly blacksmith. Glad you like him. Hewg reminded me of him.

Dark Souls 2 is a game I started a couple times, but never finished, until yesterday. I was deadly sick for a week and a half, so I dusted off my Playstation and decided to give it a go and see it through. It has always been my favorite of the series, it was also my first. It's uniquely different to the other games and should really be regarded as its own thing. I don't know you and your dark souls familiarity, but try to let go of whatever you know about darksouls and learn ds2 from a fresh and new perspective and try to understand it for its own right. Mechanics may seem unfair and sometimes downright bullshit, but I personally absolutely love that edge to the game because it keeps you sharp, engaged at the edge of your seat. There is a logic to it all and if you can get into the game flow and feel,, there is nothing quite like it. Certainly one of the games of all time.
