Hey there. Enjoying this series. A few years back I discovered I had an ancestor in the IL 42nd who was a new recruit from Illinois but was in both Spring Hill and Franklin. I've been researching heavily since then trying to read as many original sources as I can. IL 42 were under Wagner precariously out front during Franklin, so he was wounded (no idea at what point in the battle). Since he died in early January of his wounds, I assume he had to be cared for over a month. I've seen some coverage of convalescence of the Confederate soldiers by local families and residents, but have not been able to find anything about Union soldiers that were left behind and then might have been too wounded to be taken anywhere later when they returned. Where could I find information about this? [Also unrelated, I'm trying to understand where a new recruit from southern Illinois would have joined the force prior to Spring Hill? Would there have been any training? From muster on Oct. 14th to death on Jan. 11th, it was a brief tenure. And he left behind a big family.] Any pointers would be appreciated or maybe that could be included in a future video.

Hi, my ancestor was Brig Gen Thomas Ruger. There seems to be a lack of information on him, other than he was present. However, he was later promoted to the regular army rank of BG for this battle. And Maj Gen for his service at Gettysburg. Also, do you know why he was given a division in the XXIII Corps when, for the bulk of the war, he was under BG Williams in XII/XX Corps?
