We used to go to the dmv on sundays to practice in there lot that was all marked out. Great video. My first bike was a ninja new in 93 I could not pass on it so I used a 80’s Honda 350 and it was a piece of cake.

You bring up a great point which is the fact that while the skills are the same each bike is unique and require some practice and time to get the best out of it.

You do a great job with these! The 2 cameras are a great way to watch how this is done. A drone hovering just above would be pretty cool too. Great exercises too! I absolutely need to work on this stuff. Great job stay well

Yeah...I was bummed that my second camera crapped out on the figure 8 drill. Thanks for the comment!

Great video. I remember taking my driving test back in 85 guys came in on there big dresser Harleys. They couldn’t do the slow speed stuff. Stay safe out there on two wheels!

Yeah...mad respect for those fellas on full dressers whipping them around like they are 125's. I've been on those huge bikes having owned a few...I feel like the S1000XR is as big as I ever want to own at this point.

This is a great video mate. I'm gonna try some of this myself to sharpen up those skills. Something I'm guilty of not practising much. Nice one 👍

Nicely done brother! I love doing figure 8! It really test your skill of shifting your butt to keep the bike balanced!😂😂😂

The figure 8 is a great one for sure...it incorporates so many skills and is a lot of fun.

Good job. When I was young I could ride without even thinking about it. Now My skills have deteriorated along with my stamina. But not enough to give up!

Great video! I use the ends/tips of parking lot line as the "cones", and practice weaving in and out while forcing myself to lean the bike as much as possible at various speeds. I usually do this at a local market that is closed on Sunday, and I have hundreds of "tip cones" to play with. But, I also toss a few impromptu weaves in, if I notice a number of empty parking spots in a row during the week. I've also used the DMV office motorcycle test track, after hours and on weekends!

Good challenge. It is a good idea to keep practicing. I tend to practice slow riding but neglect emergency braking.

Hahaha..That's so interesting...I am the opposite. If anything I practice a lot of braking but not nearly as much slow speed stuff.

Another great blog. Being a police rider in London I fully support further rider training and for all to practise skills on a bike. I even still now have incidents where other road users have not seen me and I have anticipated their actions and avoided a collision and that’s on a marked Police BMW1250RT, so it can happen at any time, keep your skills up and give yourselves a fighting chance. Safe riding

as a motorcycle instructor i approve. low speed skill drills are what give you the most confidence to handle your bike. highly suggest keyhole drills. nice bike =]
@ThrottleBackRubberDown
@ThrottleBackRubberDown 3 жыл бұрын
Appreciate the support. I will have to take a gander at the keyhole drills. I really hope they put out some decent crash bars for this model soon. I don't particularly like drilling without them incase of an error on my end!

@@ThrottleBackRubberDown i went with the SW Motech frame sliders, you have to give up the OEM position for the aux lighting if you have it. I'm good with this decision for now, i'll relocate if i really want them back on. sw-motech.com/en/bike/BMW/S1000XR/2020/2X99+-K69-/products/protection/slider+sets/4052572197691.htm alternatively they also sell a crash bar set which preserves the aux lighting position. I don't believe there's any modification required. www.wunderlich.de/shop/en/bmw-s-serie/s-1000-xr-ab-2020/rundumschutz/sturzb-gel-protektoren-motorschutz/wunderlich-engine-protection-bar-pro-35835-002.html cheers.

Great video! You are correct. Practicing the basics especially safety maneuvers could save your life. Years ago I took the AMA motorcycle course prior to getting my class 6. Best investment for anyone wanting to get into riding. You could run such a course. Great job

Very good. I don't do any specific training like that with cones. But if I get bored I'll ride in the backyard. Standing up. No throttle at all, just slip the clutch until it's out and do some circles and figure 8s pulling the clutch back in to slow down. Then do the same standing on one foot with the other leg off the peg, then swap back and forth to build my balance in slow conditions on each foot.
@ThrottleBackRubberDown

Yeah...I really enjoy this type of riding/practice...not daily but I try to get out there 1x/month and honestly do emergency braking a bit more often. Stay safe out there!

Slow speeds, use your rear brake and you got it mate. Turn your head and you're gonna get it. I use four grid parking spots and do the figure of eight, ate up my rear brake pads but pads are cheap, good riding is priceless. Stay on it mate

For sure...Lots of fundamentals come about in these drills specifically looking where you want to go and clutch control. Cheers mate.
