Australian sambo is really poor. It's like American cricket but worse. Much worse . Jones trained in Kazakhstan I'm sure he has some tricks but sport sambo ruleset he would have to train for.

Firstly Craig isn’t the best Bjj guy. Not even close - he’s famously never won Gold at any of the biggest tournaments. But he does have a point even if he is trolling.. What techniques have actually come directly from Sambo? .. (all I can think of are variations on Judo throws. )

I know he isn’t he just claimed it in jest after beating Felipe Pena and I’ll be honest I’m not a historian but when learning leg locks at BJJ I learned a leg lock submission called the Sambo Knot. The right person to ask would be Julian Sanchez from Sambo Nation

there aren't many techniques from Sambo that came from Sambo that hasn't come from a different martial art, Sambo itself is a hybrid of various forms of Grappling martial arts and even some striking

While Judo lacks leg locks, Sambo's reliance on other martial arts techniques still questions its authenticity in pure grappling. Every move that is done by a sambo guy comes from either bjj, wrestling or judo therefore sambo is fake.

If you talk to a lot of older BJJ guys they will tell you that they had Sambists from the Eastern Bloc come over and leg lock them because they were the only ones that seriously practiced them before the recent changes in BJJ.

You have no idea what sambo is (just like that Craig Jones guy). It's not wrestling, grappling or submission art, it's basically amateur MMA (acronym "sambo" translates from russian as "self defence without weapons"). Combat sambo was MMA 50 years before MMA was invented. It was invented in the 1920s Soviet Russia for a military use as of combination of most effective fighting techniques in the world, and it has more techniques allowed than actual MMA. Soccer kicks, groin shots, head butts etc. are all legal in combat sambo. If that Craig Jones guy ever competed in a combat sambo tournament, he would have been smashed badly. There was and is plenty of "sambo based" MMA champions, Fedor and Khabib being most famous. "BJJ based" MMA champion is not a real thing since 1990s

@@khanoncrack3309 again, sambo is not grappling. Sambo guys are not fancie themselves as the best pure grapplers. They are not laying around and hugging people. Sambo grappling is the best form of grappling when you can elblow your opponent in the face, ground & pound is the huge part of sambo, that's why sambo guys are dominating over BJJ huggers on the ground in MMA
