Chevy HD Front End Conversion - Installing The 01-02 2500HD/3500HD Front Clip On 2004 Chevy Suburban

In this video I install the two year only 2001 & 2002 (I think) 2500HD/3500HD grille, hood, and bumper cap conversion on my wife's 2004 Chevy Suburban 2500. This is my second 2500HD conversion I did and this one was definetly a challenge, considering the truck was in an accident previously to me getting it. I have a 2000 silverado and I was thinking I had to change the whole bumper to do this but only having to change the upper valance is awesome.. nice video.

So when I changed the front clip on my 02 Silverado pickup I switched the bumper only after I purchased all the parts realized the bumper was the same, this time just went for swapping the bumper cap and worked out just fine. Awesome... Also the conversion I did on my pickup truck was easier in regards when it came to dropping the bumper horns/brackets down. You should be able to get the swap done in a day, or atleast a solid weekend. 👍

My guess is he still had to drop the bumper. Im pretty sure just swapping the bumper cap isnt enough. If I remember correctly when I did my truck I needed to drop the bumper horns down an inch.

Hey I was wondering after you installed the new hd bumper cap, and grill look did you also have to put the hd hood or can you keep the stock one?

You can use the stock one also. I have the stock hood on the truck right now unti the hd hood gets painted. The stock hood just doesn't look as cool 😎👍👍.

Definitely doing this on my Silverado. Mine is a 1500 so it will be the different (easier) way, but even this didn't look too bad. Not difficult, but time consuming when trying to line everything up properly. My OCD is going to have a field day with me on this one. Hahaha

I believe so yes. 2000-2006 is the year range I'm pretty sure 2007 is when chevy changed body styles in the trucks (cat eye style) and I think also for the tahoe and suburbans (just verify that, I am not 100% sure). Hopefully this helps.

You can use Repel %40 insect spray on the headlight lenses to remove the clear coat on the plastic that has turned yellow brown color. I usually spray the complete lense and let it soak about 2 minutes then use a bath towel to remove the yuck and repeat about 3 times and they’ll look almost new,

Well if all you want to do is just change the hood, then yes. But if you get involved with dropping the bumper down and replacing the top bumper cap, then you are going to need to switch the grille to match the drop down of the new bumper cap. I have a 2000 gmc sierra that i bought 99 Silverado fenders and HD bumper do I need Hd grill, Chevy Hood or HD and also Chevy lights?

So I don't know exactly what GMC did in 2001 & 2002 for the HD, but in order to switch to the Chevy HD look I do believe you need to switch everything. I know gmc has different style lights and grille, I feel like the fenders should be the same but I am not sure. If its a 1500 gmc you probably will still have to drop the bumper down to accept the 2500hd grille. Hopefully this helps, good luck with the build!👍

I was trying to buy a 2002 Chevy truck 2500 HD back around 2007 for the same reason, love the look of the hood. It matched the hoods on my 71 & 72 Chevy trucks. I ended up getting a 2002 GMC 2500HD and still have. Awesome job

Not that I know of.. I did the conversion on both of my trucks and they needed to drop a couple inches in both vehicles. If you don't drop them down they get in the way of the bumper when you drop it (Im pretty sure) ... 👍🤝

Even the factory lights are adjustable.... Look at the lights and you should see torx style adjustment screws... That's the best I can say.. Other then "how to adjust your headlights" in KZbin..😂

I want to really try this but I have a 3 inch body lift so don’t know how that would work since the bumper brackets will be different

When you did the body lift did you move your bumper at all? The way my mind is thinking, if you raised the "body" up thats the same as moving the bumper down.. All you may need to do is change out the top bumper cap, swap in a 2500hd grille and you might find everything fits.. 🤷‍♂️ Just thinking outloud ... Im sure you can figure it out... Its definitely a conversion that is worth doing...💪💯

I know this is kinf of a dumb first question but I have to start somewhere...does your front core support have the little rubber bumpers that the hood rests on? I assume it does... Also is your hood twisted and you may not have noticed? Are your hinges twisted? I spent alot of time adjusting the rubber bumpers to get it to sit right and even still it's not perfect but had to just get it close and walk away...😎

Great video.. I'm in the process of doing this swap myself. It looks like the grille is an aftermarket one, the GM ones had the bowtie area recessed a bit. I also noticed you had different bumper mounts than what I have seen with this swap before..

Thank you. The grille may be an aftermarket because you are correct about the recess it didn't fit as good as my truck conversion and I did find it in the junk yard but at 20 bucks it worked! Also the bumper mounts are different between the trucks and suburban so there may be a little variation there also.. There was so much more I could have added into this video but just like everything else there is a fine line of what people want to see or need to see, still trying to figure it out myself..👍

🤔 I feel like you wouldn't need to buy any? Maybe just swap out top bumper cap and grille? If you already have a 2500 series truck Im thinking just those two things? This video was more pointed to converting 1500 series trucks (even though the suburban was a 2500 it was very different then most trucks) ... I never bought any bumper brackets, always just cut off the old bumper horns and re-welded them back on in the position needed...🤷‍♂️. Good luck with your build!🤙

If you already have the parts, it's just a matter of your time really... As far as paying someone to do the work that is going to vary... Paint work is usually never cheap...
