Hi Matt When practicing your right foot curled shots, a lot of the shots went down the middle and not really in the far post. I think you would benefit from having a quick glance at the goal before taking the shot (trust me, it helps a lot) and I also noticed that your hips are always facing the goal which is why the ball keeps going down the middle. You need to have your hips facing away from the goal so you can start the ball outside the far post and allow for the bend in the shot to bring it back in, right in the corner.

Q&A. matt obviously you've reached the top 1% of soccer players in the world by becoming a pro. How do you determine what you want to work on and what areas you need to improve when the margins of improvement seem so small at your level? love all the content btw, been watching since 2018.

With your curled shots with the right foot. I feel like your planting foot (left leg) is aimed too much to the middle of the goal instead of to the post or even past it. This also leads to your hips turning towards the goal when shooting, when they should be aimed to the side line. Joner1on1 has a great video on this.

Love those videos. But one suggestion(19:10): if you want to curl the ball to the second post with a better consistency, you have to rather have your hips even more parallel to the goal or/and your foot swing has to go more to the right side. You swing(follow thru) towards the middle-> the ball goes in the middle of the goal. I’m surprised the coach didn’t interfere… It’s not hate, just a suggestion. Greetings from Germany:)

Additionally it would help him from that angle to play the ball out of his feet slightly away from the goal instead of towards it which would allow him to really use his hips to whip the ball.

Hey Matt, Drill 12 Right foot far post. I've analysed it. I'm a golf coach with a deep interest in football. Your bottom half is twisting left very early, especially your landing foot sir. I suggest being more committed to the direction you set with your landing foot!. Thanks for another great video.

Q&A What advice would you give to a high school freshman (my son) who loves the game, loves the work, is with a good local club, but isn't sure if he wants to try to play college soccer or even go to college? Given that it is a lot of work for him to start building the soccer resume and making contacts (starting no later than next year), I see him being reluctant to invest that time if he isn't sure. Any advice to help him make the decision would be appreciated. Best of luck to you this off-season.

I wasn’t sure if I wanted to go to college but I wanted to continue playing. I went to a community college because I was guaranteed two years and wasn’t sure what I wanted to get a degree in. Honestly it’s a good route if you’re undecided what to get a degree in and still want to play at a high level.

Nice watch. Good video. It was good to see you try out completely new drills. I'd give you a 6.5/10 on that performance. Hopefully the new movements get ingrained into your muscle memory quickly and you get more fluent at them as you practise those drills more frequently. Also, the next time try having someone stand between the posts. It'll help you get an idea about how many of your shots hold the potential to beat the keeper in a match situation. Merely keeping the shot on target for the sake of it isn't enough. As a fulltime pro you have to stretch & test the keeper too. ** your weak foot is weak. Quite weak. As a professional, put more mindful training to make it stronger, better and smoother.

I wanted to ask if you think I could start my professional football career in the US after moving from India (not yet but in the future). I'm a huge fan of yours and have watched all of your videos. I also love watching your offseason/training videos. I hope you can answer my question since I am eager to know the answer because of my dream to go pro in football. If you do your football training and then lift you will not be able to go as hard in the gym. Generally it’s better to lift first and then do a cardio based activity after. However I understand priorities change when you’re a professional footballer. Your main goal is not to grow your bicep an extra two inches lol
